Want to school a first time veggie gardener?

We finally got a plot at our community garden, and I am so happy! We read on the website that the plots were 4x10, so we decided we would do square foot gardening, planned it, and bought some seeds and plants.

So this week, a couple days before the opening day, the organizer emailed me and told me my plot is going to be 6x15! I think that is probably too big to do square foot, yes? Can I reach 3 feet to sow and harvest without falling into the poor plants? Or should I just go back to the drawing board (before TOMORROW) and do... what? I could really use some help and advice!

I realize this isn't the end of the world, I'm not trying to be dramatic. I am just a bit OCD about this kind of thing because I am a newbie and want to get as much yield as possible in my first go at it. So any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated - I know how busy you all must be around this time of year

What about following your same basic plan, but lay it out in 4x6 plots with 18 inch paths between. Two of those will be roughly equivalent to your original plan.

You could do flowers (nasturiums/calendula etc), herbs, berries, more tomatoes etc in the last plot.

We just got our first community garden plot as well this week and it is 9 x 15 so I am busy planning!

You can still do square foot if you want. I would do four 3x6 plots, with one foot pathways between. My reach is only about 1.5 feet (most likely this preggo belly!), so I don't like wider than about 3 feet with access from both sides. Have fun laying it out!

Thanks everyone! We went to look at it yesterday but got rained out pretty quickly. I don't think it's 6x15... I think we will be able to stick more or less to our original plan! I love the advice and encouragement though
