IUD is out and uterus wants to kill me

Okay, so it's not that dramatic, but it stinks. I got my Mirena iud out one week ago today. I had some bleeding that day, and then a couple days without any. Monday I started bleeding heavily. I've got bad cramps, and my digestion is off so food just doesn't look good.

I'm not at what is clinically 'heavy' bleeding, but it's more like what I felt like after having my daughter. I've been propped up in bed all week because too much activity makes it worse. I've never had bad cramps or heavy bleeding with regular periods, so it's a little out of character. It's also not at my normal time of month. If I hadn't tested a few times before the removal, I'd think this was a miscarriage.

Has anyone else had the same issue after Mirena removal? How long did it last?

I had the other IUD, but my first period after is was removed was heavy. As in, having to go take a shower several times a day heavy.

The periods following that have been better.

I think I bled for close to 2 weeks after I had my Mirena out. Started heavy and tapered off after about a week. If you are planning to TTC, I also got pregnant almost immediately after I stopped bleeding

Ugh - I went through this a month ago! I bled for 10 days, lots of clotting and just GROSS. Ended up at the ER after soaking through tampons and pads, but I was fine. My midwife gave me Premarin to get it under control and it worked within 24 hrs.

Now we're TTC....haven't had a BFP or AF yet so we'll see what happens!

I had about a 2 week period that started a few days after removing Mirena. I had cramps strong enough that they felt more like contractions.

I had alot of bleeding when I had my Mirena out. I bled alot after my daughter was born, but I dont remember seeing large clots. After my Mirena came out it was sooo much worse. But it only took about 10 days to stop (compared to 7 weeks after the baby). I just had my first real period after having it out and it wasnt too bad. It only lasted 4 days, which is much shorter than my pre-baby periods that lasted 8 days or so.

Luckily it's starting to die down, but I wish it would stop. It's just spotting, unless I do too much, and then it's back to a normal flow for a few hours.

Doctors should warn you about that. They say "you might have spotting today", but it would be nice to know it could be like after giving birth.

I've actually got to get a breast mri/mammo, a mole removed, and dental work, so it may be a month or so before we can really try. Good times.

Was it worth it?

Hi ladies,

I was reading your post while doing research on the IUD as a form of birth control after pregnancy. We may want to have another child, but I'm so busy caring for my 2-month old I don't even have time to think about that!
Do you think that the IUD was a good form of birth control, despite the problems you had when it was removed? Would you recommend it?

Thanks!
