Fuzzibuns vs Bumgenius

Tried searching for a similar thread but didn't come up with much.

Now that my DD is a bit bigger (a bit over 9 pounds now) I'm starting to play around with the cloth diapers we have. A friend lent us a ton of various options.

I know everyone just looooves prefolds, but I'm honestly not loving them. They are down to her poor knees and make her look like a pear in a onesie. Fitteds and covers work pretty well, and I'll definitely keep using them as long as they fit (I have a ton of kissalove size 0s).

But, honestly, what I really really love is the Bumgenius sized aio diapers. I just love how easy they are, how trim they are, etc. But now that she's getting bigger I'm liking their one-size as well, though they aren't quite as trim.

So, for those of you who actually like bumgenius and fuzzibuns, which do you like better? And when considering fit/price/how well they work, did you prefer the sized or the one-size?

I will probably not buy a whole stash of these, since they're expensive, but I definitely think I want to buy more than the few I have.

Thanks!

Oh yeah, or if you have any other favorite aio or pocket diapers, let me know!

I'm all about the ease and the trim fit.

I love the bum genius one-size. I have never tried fb one-sized but I have tried the fb size small. They are cute and work, but I felt that they weren't as absorbant and not made as well. They might have improved them since I bought them though. Do you like velcro or snaps better?

Hmm, I don't know. The velcro is easier to me, but I haven't used CDs long enough to really have a feel for if one holds poop/pee better or not.

I use both, but prefer the Bumgenius. Now that DS is that bit older (8months) the difference in the inserts is clear. I have to use an extra booster with the fuzzis, but just the snap insert for the bumgenius. Also I find that my bumgenius are holding together better. I'm down to one fuzzi (a blue and brown polka dot medium) and the plastic bit has pulled away from the outer material. It doesn't affect the performance of the diaper, but I would have expected better quality. I just bought 3 more bumgenius and won't buy any more fuzzis. I haven't tried the one size fuzzis though, so can't comment on those. HTH!

I use both. i don't love either. my favorite pockets are actually Happy heinys and knikernappies. They come in sized and OS.

The FB's just do not seem to fit DS well. I have a sized one and a perfect size. They are jus alright.

I do like the BG AIOs. I've just started trying them with the coupon that they gave out. The only negative is that I can only use them for a short amount of time since they are sized. The sized BG's, on the other hand, I have been using for over a year, and they are still holding up very well.

As for absorbency, if you like the fit of FB's, you can always buy different inserts to go in them. I have a ton of microfiber inserts and different types of pockets that I just mix and match on laundry day. You could also put in some hemp for extra absorbency.

I have sized FBs and BG 2.0s as my main stash, with fitteds as back-ups when all the pockets are dirty. I am on baby #2 with my pockets and I have to say that the FBs are holding up much better than the BGs. The BGs have a lot of pilling on the tabs and the velcro is looking worn. The diapers still work great and I love that they grow w/baby. But my FBs look as good as new.

eta: I also have one Knickernappie and agree with the pp that they are really nice pockets as well.

Having used both....BumGenius, hands down. LOVE LOVE LOVE my BG sized AIOs.

you could try out kawaii pockets. we have the heavy duty one size aios (they're called aios on the site, but they're really pockets), and they work well for us. dh uses those, along with the hh os, which i like too- and they seem to hold up much better than the few bg os we have.

I use both, FB and BG (one size pockets though, not AIOs). My big complaint with the BG is that the aplix wore out on all of them after only about a year of use. I recently had all of mine converted to snaps. They still don't seem like they'll last until PL'ing on K. They don't have a long enough rise for him. I love fuzzi bunz. I've tried a lot of diapers, and they are my favorite. Simple, easy to use, and they work.

I tried Fuzzi bunz several times and *hated* them every time. Never fit any of my kids right, leaked, were messy to change...loved my bumgenius, though. Except the price. So long as I washed them often, 6 could get me through with some prefolds/kissaluvs backups.

FuzziBunz is way better, hands-down.

-I have seen a lot of babies try on many different diapers, and the FuzziBunz One-Size is always the one I can get a great fit for almost every baby. The bumGenius, if it fits, it fits, but there are a lot of kids for whom it does not fit at all - like all of mine.

-The FuzziBunz fleece inside is way softer than the bumGenius suedecloth (which I can barely even stand to touch.)

-FuzziBunz are snaps and so they last forever and you can put them in the dryer. BumGenius one-size pockets, you are supposed to line-dry the shells to preserve the velcro's stickiness, but even so, they quickly become non-sticky.

-The BG also have quality issues with their elastic going very quickly. The FuzziBunz One-Size includes replacement elastic which you can do yourself without sewing - and yet, I have never had it break!

-BumGenius warns you that their bright colored diapers will run and have to be washed separately for 6 cycles!!!! FuzziBunz has way more colors and they don't bleed.

-BumGenius pocket one-size are really bulky when in the small setting, b/c all the extra diaper is up front, and the insert is doubled over. FuzziBunz one-size distributes the extra fabric all over the diaper, and they give you 2 real inserts - a small insert, and a large - you don't have to keep the extra insert bulk on the baby!!!

For the sized BG AIO, it is an okay diaper b/c it is so trim, but you have serious velcro issues b/c you have to put them in the dryer if you ever want them to dry, and so you have to turn them inside out to dry, which is a PITA, and the dryer destroys the velcro.

I don't really recommend the sized FB pockets anymore b/c their One-Size is so awesome and fits babies better.

I've used both FB and BG and, though I prefer velcro, I like the FB diapers better. Every time I put a BG on my child, he developed a rash. When I would take the BG diapers out of the rotation, he wouldn't get a rash. I have been using FB diapers with no problems for about a year now. I haven't tried them on my newborn yet b/c I haven't been motivated enough to add the extra load of laundry yet, but I will eventually. I have both the one size and the perfect size FB and like them both. However, the one size seems smaller than the medium sized FB I have, but they both fit my 25ish pound 17 month old fine.

If you're looking for trim, I'd recommend Knickernappies 2g (sized) diapers. The Knickernappies OS runs large so I'd wouldn't recommend that at your lo's size. Between FB and BG I'd recommend the FB, all the complaints I've every heard about velcro/aplix have been on BG dipes. Sized diapers will always fit better and you can resell them when you need to move to the next size.

Have you consider an AI2? Our favorite right now are SoftBums - you reuse the cover and change the inserts. Love all the space that gives me in the diaper bag!

FBOS pros: more customizable fit, snaps if you like them
FBOS cons: bulkier overall, more annoying to adjust, weird shelf-butt look

BGOS pros: velcro if you like it, easier to change the rise settings (but therefore less customizable)
BGOS cons: crappy aplix and I hate the ugly bulky snap-down rise

Honestly I don't like either of them bc they are both bulky and I hate stuffing pockets, and I don't like AIOs because they are a huge waste of laundry space.

I second the vote for Softbums AI2. Perfectly and easily adjustable, super trim, will totally fit NB to PL, no pocket stuffing and minimal laundry burden. Super cute is a bonus. They're the perfect diaper!

Btw I have a couple of the sized BG AIOs and I am confused as to why people say they are so trim. They are not a hair trimmer than the Softbums (maybe a bit bulkier even) and the Softbums are OS. The AIOs are much easier to put on a mobile baby though.

BG's are the only diapers, we've ever used (aside from sposies). I love them... we had 40 2.0s for ds1, and have 36 3.0s for ds2. I contimplated the fb one-sizes, but ultimatly just went for what I knew and loved - more bgs When DS2 was born DS1 was nowhere near potty training, hence the need for more diapers . I just gave almost all our old 2.0s to a friend a couple weeks ago, as ds1 is now finally potty trained (I kept 6 or so for night time use... he's *usually* dry in the mornings, but I'm lazy and putting a dipe on at night is a million times easier than changing sheets at 3am )

The BG AIOs (not one size) aren't bulky and you don't stuff. After FBs, I hate stuffing dipes. And my babies were all super chunky and then I had 2 skinny kids and the FBs always cut into them and left hip marks-they didn't fit my kids at all. Everyone is different!

I haven't read the other replies so I may be saying some of the same things as other posters but I have both Fuzzi Bunz one size and Bum Genius one size and really like them both. If I absolutely had to choose, I would probably go with the Bum Genius but like having some of both. I also have 3 Blueberry one size (2 snap and 1 velcro) and like those as well but they are more expensive and have more cons than the other 2 brands I think. (They are smaller fitting as my daughter was wearing the biggest size much earlier than the others and she is petite.)

Fuzzi Bunz Pros: super cute vibrant colors, no need to worry about velcro tabs, the back doesn't have anything covering it so you can just shake to get the insert out without touching anything (but this can be a con, too in that the insert sometimes will stick up out of the diaper)

Fuzzi Bunz Cons: harder to get a tight fit with snaps (I think), the sizing is a pain, although I have had overall very few leaks, I have gotten more with these than the other two brands (especially at night), they are bulkier, the inserts are a little more of a pain to stuff but just barely

Bum Genius Pros: velcro is easy to get on quickly and I can get a tighter fit, overall very few leaks, easy to stuff, trimmer fit so they look less bulky in clothes

Bum Genius Cons: pastels can get kind of boring but I think they have some new colors since I bought mine over a year ago, need more detergent for these (at least per the instructions, you need some for the cold and hot cycle whereas Fuzzi Bunz only calls for it during hot cycle), you sometimes get "messy" when taking out the insert since it has a flap over it, liners are showing more wear than the other 2 brands, velcro can stick to stuff in the wash even when you have attached them

Right but I can only fit like 5 of them in my tiny washer. Even if I had a full-size washer though, the idea of having to wash a whole huge diaper for every little pee just bothers me. Plus they take for-stinkin-ever to dry.

Also I like being able to launder inserts and covers separately. That way I can use super-hot water, vinegar, and other treatments on stinky or stained inserts without worrying about their effect on the PUL and elastic in the covers.

FB- hands down!

The velcro BG uses is crap and barely holds on after a while. ...ok so that's my main reason. I have a velcro free stash except for some bumkins covers (their velcro is way better quality than BG or Bummis) and one BG organic OS AIO that a friend gave me.

My top fave is the BG organic OS AIO w/ snaps. If you can put up the cash and your child isn't a world class power wizzer those are the best diapers ever.
