My parents have this growing in their back yard, it popped up last year too. My dad thought it was cilantro, but upon smelling it, it smells like licorice.
I looked up anise, and it seems very similar, but the leaves on this stuff look like cilantro, while most of the photos of anise showed more tree leaf like leaves (more like a regular leaf, not all separated like a cilantro leaf). A couple drawings, however, showed leaves like this. So this is most likely anise, right?
