Fish Pool

You know the fishy pool that seems to be so popular for home waterbirthers? Where did you buy yours??!!! I've been looking for it everywhere and can't seem to find it. I don't care that it has fish on it, but it does seem to be just right as far as dimensions go. It seems big enough but not too big, deep enough and the sides are wide enough to support a labouring mama's strength.

Where can I find it or something similar? Where did you find your birth pool? And do you have any feed back on what pool to use?

I got mine at either Walmart or Canadian Tire. I think I spent $50.

Never did use it for birthing though.

Thanks mamas! If anyone knows the brand name, maybe I can do a search that way too. I'd like to buy it in a real store just so I can return it if it is defective.

One thing to consider, there are different widths with the pools. If you are tall, I'd go for the wider pool because from my own experience, it was soooo nice to be able to stretch my legs all the way across and lay on my side (with my legs slightly bent) while in labor land. I'd HATE to be fighting with the edge of the pool! I'm 6' and the fishy pool I used was 70" across.

I know exactly what you mean! My first birth was in a birth center and I spent it in the jacuzzi tub doing just what you describe. The floating leg thing is what saved me and made labor as lovely as labor could be. I've also worried about how much I'd hate fighting for space so I can float!! I'll keep the pool dimentions in mind when shopping!

I remember seeing them on the shelf at Canadian Tire last summer.

I had purchased one at a Targe and another one (the first became kids' property!) for another birth at a grocery store. It was around $20 each time and was that same round 'fishy pool' you see everywhere. I have not been able to find one locally again but think I heard they will be out in stores come late May. Our Target has a slightly larger octagon type shape fishy pool that I will pick up of the round one doesn't show up in stores. It will just be a tighter fit in our small space.

They were supposed to come in at the end of April, then end of May, and last I heard from local retailers early June.

Thanks everyone! I finally bought one, but I think I will return it if I can find something more suitable. The one I bought was from canadian tire and has 3 inflatable rings but no i-beams. So I find the pool walls to be rather flimsy. I was hoping it would have more 'structure' to it. I am worried I would spill water from it with each contraction if I put pressure on the sides. The one I found also does not have an inflatable floor which I am finding really uncomfortable.
I'm not a big fan of the interior diameter either. There is no way I can 'float' my legs in it.

So I am now trying to find a pool that has i-beams, an inflatable floor and is a bit wider in diameter than 60 inches. BUt that will require no more than 2-3 water tanks to fill, and I have a 60 gallon water heater.

sevylor seems to have stopped making what looks like a perfect pool. I can't find the pool I want in retail stores, and for whatever reasons, ebay doens't seem to have sellers in canada and the us -> canada shipping is more than the pool itself.

So I am still shopping!!

Ps, we don't have Target in canada! Wish we did, but we don't!

I bought mine at Canadian Tire three years ago. However since then they have not carried it. I spent all last summer looking for one that I could buy in person. I still haven't got pregnant so I'm still looking for one.
