5 mo. old sleep issues

So my DS is not a great sleeper, but I can always count on him to fall asleep - just not stay asleep.

But the last couple days, for both naps and nighttime, he won't go down, either. He screams and cries and rubs eyes and is tired....I try and nurse him, he takes a few sips, rubs his eyes, and pulls off...spits out the paci (which usually works)...won't latch back on, arches his back, writhes, screams to high heaven....it is so frustrating and driving me nuts.

I've tried/checked everything...dirty/wet/tight diaper, big burp...i mean possibly it is his farts/bowels (though he doesn't release them when he finally does go to sleep)

Any guesses?! Could this be teething? He does drool a ton, but he is not cranky during other points of the day....What the heck is going on?

Sounds like teething, it will most likely pass soon.

could be teething, could be an ear infection.

If it's only happening at bedtime, could he possibly have been overtired lately? Could you try wearing him to sleep? (The bopping around might help, if you have a carrier that is).

he's too warm, he's teething, he doesn't want to stop moving, he has a low-grade virus, any combo of those things.

I agree with PP's that the most likely culprit is teething.

DD has been doing this too. I think it's a developmental thing combined with teething. She's been really easily woken up, hard to get to sleep and easily startled and cranky. One thing that really helped us is a white noise recording in the bedroom. It's still difficult to get her to sleep - took me a good 1.5 hours last night - but at least with the fan sound in the bedroom up pretty loud, she stays asleep and the slightest noise in the rest of the house or room (like my joints popping!) don't wake her up.

My DD (b.12/15) has not wanted to nap all week! Yesterday she wouldn't even fall asleep on my back which usually works wonders. She didn't take a nap until 4 pm yesterday in the front wrap. Finally, after six tries in three different carriers!

I think it's teething. Her amber necklace arrived a few days ago and I'm hoping it will help.

Just wanted to say, "Hang in there!" You are not alone

I got one for DD and I am not at all convinced it is doing anything.
