push/pull toy recommendations?

Our 11 mo LO is crawling now and has started to pull up on his knees. His ped suggested getting him a push/pull toy to help him with standing and ultimately walking.

Suggestions?

Any "green" push/pull toys?

This is going to sound ridiculous but from about 10 or 11 months on ds' favourite push toy is a large bucket. It makes a horrendous sound on the floor so I slipped an old pillow case over the bottom & duct taped it in place. It's not nice to look at but he seriously loves it. It was the right height when he was first walking but didn't move quickly because of the lack of wheels. The lack of wheels also made it easy for him to switch directions. Now he loves to push it around & put things in & out of it.

lifeguard, that is funny!

I want one too, but I'm afraid DD will push too hard, and the thing will slip resulting in a faceplant. We have wood floors.

We have wood floors too which is why we did the pillow case - to try to prevent scratches (but with 2 dogs & ds scratches are inevitable).

My son also likes to push around a laundry basket! However, it does tip over every once and a while.

I am really wanting the Haba walker wagon (the basic one), but it's like $150!!! But it gets really good reviews. His birthday is coming up....

We got the Haba Pushing Car for my son's birthday last week. He likes it, but hasn't gotten interested in walking with it yet. He sits down behind it and pushes it a little. He has also taken a couple of rides in it.

I think it will be safe on the wood floors. It's very heavy and sturdy.

Oh yes, and his favorite birthday present? A set of plastic golf clubs that my husband got him. He pushed those all over the house the first two days.

Just make sure it has a low and heavy center of gravity. We had one of the little cheapy plastic lightweight fisher price ones. It was so light that it would topple right over, especially with wood floors. I did get it to work by putting a rice bag (the ones you heat in a microwave) on the shape sorter part of it and then had no problems.

I was wondering about getting the same thing but also wondered if it was better to let them start walking without using one? I am not sure whether it might speed up walking before her muscles are really ready? Does anyone know?

We got this Ikea cart for DS first birthday. 2 years later and he still uses it every day. It's really strong and sturdy. He and his little 40lb friend push each other around in it, DS pretends it's a scooter, etc. It worked well for walking because you can make the wheels really stiff. If you have an Ikea near you I suggest you go and try out the floor model and see what you think.

Not particularly crunchy, but we got a mega bloks truck second hand and DD pushed it all over the place. I actually dont' thin kit helped her walking though. She waled at 14 mths but was pushing that thing from about a year.

We just got our son the radio flyer wagon walker on a yardsale. He's been pulling himself up and crusing along furniture for a while. It is really nice to go for walks with him and the wagon walker
