My chances are they good for a vba2c

I am pregnant with our 7th beautiful child and I am hoping for a vba2c.


My first four children were all completley natural, perfect births. Then with my fifth child it was a elective c-section as I had a dermoid cyst on my right ovary and we decided to have it taken out the same time as the c-section,but it wasnt warranted, plus bubs was breech so that made the choice to have the c-section.

Second c-section was just decided because I was given the
"You already had a c-section it would be safer to have another" so I did, stupidily.

I refuse to have another c-section, its been 3 years since my last and I want a natural birth.

When the midwife rang me to book me in I asked her could I have a vba2c and she said absolutley, that they would encourage it, but when I went in for that booking in the midwife I saw said I dont like your chances at all seeing its after 2 c-sections..

I am worried my next appointment to see the register, I havent seen him yet only the midwife with my booking in appointment 3 weeks ago, he is going to say we dont allow them here and I have NO other hossy to go to.

Any advice ladies?

I don't see any reason why not. The risks with a vba2c are pretty comparable to a primary vbac. And the reasons for your c/s are not likely to repeat in this pregnancy. And you have already had FIVE vaginal births! I would definitely do it in your shoes. I would ask anyone who says my chances are low what exactly they are referring to. Why does she think that? Doesn't make sense to me other than maybe she wasn't actually looking at your chart but was just going on the information that you'd had 2 so therefore something must be "wrong" with you?

She said they allow a vbac but not favourable of a vba2c, I mean what is the difference? She said they dont facilitate for a vba2c. Again what the hell could that mean, what would they do differently from a vbac to a vba2c? I suppose they think a vba2c is a much higher risk of uterus rupture that is all I can think of.

I will be sooooooooo upset if he says no which I have heard they dont like anything to do with a vba2c

Yes, your chances are good because you have a "proven pelvis." The increase in the risk of rupture after two c/s is pretty darn small. Whether or not the hospital will allow it (which depends largely on if their malpractice insurance covers it) is another story.

Actually, ACOG (one of the strictest orgs for VBAC in general) says that you are a great candidate for VBA2C. If you hadn't had any other children vaginally, they that is where people get sticky, but considering you have had 4, there should be a problem. Also, the reasons for your CSs are not indicative of higher risk. It's not like your baby(s) never engaged in your pelvis. I would push for a natural vaginal birth. Having a repeat CS the third time around is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH more risky than a VBA2C.

3rd Cesarean Risks:
Risk of hysterectomy........0.9% (1 in 111)
Risk of blood transfusion..2.26% (1 in 44)
Risk of placenta accreta...0.57% (1 in 175)
Risk of major complications.7.5% (1 in 13)
Risk of dense adhesions....32.2% (1 in 3)

With 4 successful vaginal births under your belt that makes you an incredible candidate for a VBA2C! My OB will allow woman to have VBA2C's because he believes that vaginal births are best and the way women are designed to birth. He allows woman to have a VBA2C for their 3rd child, meaning they've never had a successful vaginal birth. For me, having had a VBAC, he hi-fived me and said, awesome! Now you KNOW you can do it, I have no doubt you'll be successful again.

YOU KNOW you can birth a baby vaginally! You've done it, 4 times! So, you've proved to any doctor, nurse, hospital that you CAN AND WILL be successful.

The only challenge I think you'll come across is the support of allowing the VBAC, specifically after 2 c/s's. So, if you find the supportive provider, being able to do it or not shouldn't be the question! Your body knows how to birth a baby vaginally! As for when you find this supportive provider, I'd ask a few questions, like, how far will they let you go? 39 weeks? 40 weeks? 42 weeks? My last OB told me, okay, you can try a VBAC if you go into labor before 39 weeks, when you'll have your scheduled c/s. Not quite the same thing as a truely supportive VBAC provider, ya know.

So, I'd want to know exactly how/when/why/to what extent a provider will really be supportive of you!

Do you have the option of planning a homebirth? I just had a home VBA2C and it was a great experience. I have four children and my first was a vag birth and my second and third were csections. I did find a supportive OB for my fourth but decided my best chance was at home(my cbac was caused by an unsupportive partner that was on call to my supportive OB). With the homebirth I knew exactly who would be at my birth and they had full confidence in me.

You are so sweet, but sure, feel free to quote me . I'm one of the chapter leaders locally for ICAN, so I'm filled with a plethora of information and facts. Feel free to message me if you need further support.

Also, visit the ICAN-online.com they have some info on what to do if your Dr./hospital "banns" VBAC. It will help you out as well.

VBA2C goes against the ACOG guidelines, so many hospitals won't do them for that reason. The way it was explained to me is that hospitals worry their malpractice insurance won't cover them if they do anything that contradicts those guidelines. My local hospital will do vbacs if you've had only one c/s, but will not do them if you've had more than that. But the hospital I had my vba2c at was in a much larger town and it wasn't an issue. I'm delivering there again this time with the same OB.
