Cheapest natural shampoo?

No-poo isn't working anymore since we moved to a place with different water I really like Aubrey Organics, but it's expensive even when I buy it at iherb with our supplements and get free shipping. Any suggestions? Are all the nice ones expensive? I only wash my hair every 2-3 days so that helps, but a cheaper one that's fairly natural would be nice.

Do you have access to a Whole Foods? I just discovered that WF has great, inexpensive - natural, but not organic - shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion. It's the WF's 365 Day store brand. I have the lotion in lavender (I think there's 3 scents - unscented, lavender, citrus) - big 32 oz bottle for $5! I think the shampoo is priced the same. Not organic, but no parabens, etc. I think the shampoo has no SLS, etc.

Give it a try. I think the smaller bottle of shampoo, etc. is only $3 or so.

Whole Foods brand works good if you want a traditional-type of shampoo.

We use Dr Bronner's which is a castile liquid soap and can be used for pretty much anything. It does seem expensive but because it is liquid you only need a very small amount so the bottle really lasts a long time.

Burt's Bees Rosemary Mint shampoo bar is terrific. It's about $6 and lasts a long time. It's in a green box.

I have this and am uncertain if I like the smell or not.

You can also use a bar of Dr. Bronner's to wash your hair. Can use it for both body AND hair!

Even cheaper is Kirk's Castile Soap. Not everywhere carries it, but it would be in the grocery store/Target/Walmart. White wrapper with black & red lettering. You might have to literally look high or low for it. The bars are thin, but at about $1 a bar, pretty cheap. Natural, not organic.

Do you like the Kiss My Face brand? Not cheap, but not crazy either. The problem I have w/ Dr. Bronner's is that it leaves our hair feeling not so great. DD, who has lots of fine, wavy hair, seems to tangle a lot more w/ Dr. Bronners.

Just rinse with diluted apple cider vinegar. Works great, and it's cheap.

If you look in the whole foods bar soap section you will find their 365 glycerin (organic) bar soaps. They run from $1.59 to 3.99 depending on what they are. They have several varieties including no fragrance, oatmeal, olive oil, lavender and tto. We went that route when I really wanted to cut down on all the stuff we had for bath time and my family was really sensitive to fragrances/additives and I really wanted 1 thing everyone could use. The no fragrance/dye one (clear) is AWESOME for sensitive skins.

Thanks everyone! We do have a Whole Foods fairly near and I'll check the other options too. Not organic is fine, I'm just looking for no nasty chemicals like SLS etc.

subbing...I can't no-poo with our water either (WAAAAAY too hard) and I can't do shampoo bars or some natural shampoos either, the mineral buildup from our water is just too much. But I'm experimenting with different natural ones trying to find one that I like (right now I'm actually using my kids JASON stuff LOL).

I find several natural and organic brands at a local discount store for $1.99 - $2.99 for the same size bottles in the health food store that sell for triple to quadruple that (and sometimes even higher). Shop around.

Desert Essences fragrance-free conditioner is my favorite natural/organic brand. I don't know how much it is at the hfs, but I paid $1.99 and it is awesome!!! I also love the Sonoma Soap Company products and I paid $1.59 for some of those products. Aubrey's Organics was $2.99 there. The challenge is it can be hit or miss to find what you want WHEN you want it.

Instead of buying shampoo, could you buy some soft water by the gallon, and use that for no-poo washing?

what about baking soda worked into dry hair and scalp before showering (watch the eyes it stings) then rinse it out really well and use apple cider vinegar for a rinse? That is all I use, but I don't do it often.

Probably not actually cheaper than some pp suggestions, but cheaper than most natural brand shampoos - I love lush solid shampoos. I end up buying 2 and they last me 1-1 1/2 years, which is pretty good. They lather a lot and have really decreased a lot of the scalp irritation I've still had while using other natural brand hair care stuff, so I've stuck to them. They do have one formulated for hard water too, in case that's a problem.

They still use SLS in a lot of their products. I had heard they were replacing the SLS with SCS in most of their products...or will be in the future. They also use alcohols, glycols, fragrance and A LOT of FD&C coloring. People always recommend LUSH to me, but I just checked the link and am disappointed in the ingredients.

Not sure if you have them where you are but Trader Joe's brand shampoo and conditioner is super cheap. I was doing no-poo and just conditioner and natural products for a few years. I got sick of my hair looking like cr@p and now use yucky stuff again My daughter has fab hair and can no-poo or ocationally some natural shampoo but mine is super dry and curly (and I get horrible dandruff no-pooing )

I SWEAR by the wholes foods shampoos. Big bottles for 4.99??? You can't beat that.

I can't seem to get away from SLS unless I spend the money on the fancy stuff like aubrey organics or avalon organics. I'm pretty sure that Whole Foods brand and Trader Joe's brand and even some of my favorite companies like George's Aloe and Earth Science have SLS in their shampoo But if SLS doesn't bother you like it bothers me, Nature's Gate is natural (not organic) shampoo and has a lot of essential oils and plant products. It's relatively inexpensive compared to the other natural products and smells nice and makes hair clean and soft and easy to brush without leaving buildup.
