do you really wash FB 3 or 4 times?

I want to get fuzzi buns for my newborn, but the washing instructions say to rinse in cold, wash in hot, and rinse in cold again (twice?)??

Laundry of CD is already a huge commitment for me (we live on the second floor and the laundry is in the basement - I can't carry the baby and the laundry down the steps - and I have a 3-yr-old who I can't leave alone upstairs w the baby!) - but I want to try it. However, if I basically have 4 loads for every one, I can't imagine.

What is your laundry reality w FBs?

I have a frankenstein collection of diapers, including some FBs. I wash EVERYTHING in cold, on the regular wash cycle (no extra rinses or anything.)

Yes, that is correct. I have the Fuzzi Bunz one size and wash them once in cold water without detergent, once in hot with detergent and then do one more cold rinse so technically that is 2 1/2 wash cycles. I air dry the covers and partially dry the inserts in the dryer on low heat and then air dry them the rest of the way. I also dry my wet bags and cloth wipes on low heat one cycle. I have 20 diapers so I wash every other day.

Well most washers regular cycle includes a wash and a rinse - you can usually choose the temp. I think you would be fine to do a hot wash/cold rinse with your FBs, which would be just one wash cycle.

My washer at home has extra rinse settings, so I can set it to do extra rinses without any extra effort. I've always liked doing a cold rinse before washing just because I feel the diapers get cleaner - rinses the poop off, THEN I do the hot wash so they are not agitating in poop water. But I'm sure plenty of people wash cd's without doing the extra rinse step.

I think you will be just fine with hot wash/cold rinse.

I use BumGenius OS Pockets for my 16mo old DS, but they are very similar to FB's and some of the other pockets out there. There is no way I would use mine if I had to wsh them 4 times, and we own our own home and have the washer/dryer right in my kitchen! Part of the reason why I chose to CD in the 1st place was because it was more economical. I would feel horrible about having to use that much water/electricity just to wash dipes. Here is what I do with my BG's and it works fine.

I rinse all the dipes out in the toilet after they've been soiled. The cold water in the toilet works just the same as a cold wash in the machine would. The idea behind the cold wash is to remove any solids that have been left behind on the dipes and not to "bake" them in there by starting with a hot wash. So by rinsing things out good b4 you can save yourself a wash cycle. I do a regular hot wash, with 1extra rinse on cold and then toss them into the dryer on the regular heat setting. On some occasions I've had some stink issues when taking them out of the dryer, but Ive found doing a wash with a little bit of bleach whenever I run into stink takes care of things for quite a while.

I use mainly FBs and for EBF poop I only do a hot wash and cold rinse. I dry everything in the dryer. Once every 5-7 washes or so I run the dipes on a sanitary cycle, then cold rinse, then cold wash w/no detergent and rinse again to make sure we don't have detergent build up.

Have been doing it this way for 3 years w/no issues. Dipes look as good as new. I would be and would NOT use cloth if I had to wash 4x per the instructions or if I had to rinse in the toilet, etc.

eta: for non-ebf poop, I just add a cold soak to the beginning of my regular wash routine.

I have done Elimination Communication with my last 2 children, and it's easy to tell when they're going to poop (a toot is a hint to hurry to the potty!) So we hardly ever have poopy diapers. But I just wash everything on cold, one time. The diapers get clean and smell fresh.

I use FB perfect size for DS1 at night, he rarely has poos in them, but even when he does, I was on a Hot/Warm cycle, once. I don't have any issues with staining or repelling. HTH!

My machine has an option that you can turn on or off for an extra rinse. I throw the dipes in, then run the cold rinse cycle which takes about 10 minutes. Then I go down, toss in the soap, and set it for a hot wash/cold rinse with an extra cold rinse. Takes very little time on my part.
