What size bed for DS to allow us still to cosleep?

DS cosleeps with either myself or DH on alternate nights but never all 3 together because dh snores and I'm a terrible sleeper. We will be cosleeping for a long time to come but I need to buy a guest bed which will be in DS's eventual room, and therefore will eventually be his bed.

I see the scenario being that we move ds into his own room at some point but either dh or I will continue cosleeping with him in his room until he no longer wants us to. So we need a bed that is a comfortable size to cosleep in but which is also a good size for DS alone when the time comes. It seems like a queen would be too big? How about a full? I worry that won't be big enough.

We currently have a king with a side-carred crib so have a lot of space!

I plan on getting a full futon for the floor of DD's room so eventually her and the new baby (due in Sept) can sleep there together once they are ready to move out of the room. Until then, it can be used for a guest room or if DD or DH or I or this new baby needs a little more space. I think a full would be plenty of room for 1-2 kids and an adult.

Okay, so I'm starting to research mattress toxicity (came to AP/NL late in the game), are you specifically getting a futon because of what it is made of i.e. non-toxic materials? Thanks.
