Are there any non-toxic deodorants? - Page 2

I have used some natural deoderants that were fine, except when I had my period. But these are the only natural deoderants that have ever worked for me through out my cycle.

My favorite is the sandalwood!

I found this recipe http://girlonbikewrites.blogspot.com...deodorant.htmland put it in an old deodorant container. It just takes a little swipe and lasts all day so far.

http://ultimatemoneyblog.com/how-to-make-deodorant Here's the recipe I use to make my own. It works great! I add in more essential oils to give it a good smell.

I really liked Funk Butter, but it did give me a rash. Now I just use alcohol with EO.

I use the Jason brand (I like the apricot scent) with no problems for everyday wear. It's not an antiperspirant, just a deodorant I think.

When I was going dancing a lot (before DD lol) I used the hard-core stuff with the aluminum on those nights, but eventually switched to the Crystal Rock, and found that worked just as well and left no scent at all.

Oh we got these from Etsy last week when somebody in this forum recommended them (perhaps it was you on another thread?)!

They're absolutely great! My DH got the Sandalwood one and I got the Lavender

I have really sensitive skin and had about given up on deoderant but hated that I had to worry about if I was stinky or not. I had tried the crystal but it didn't really work for me. Finally I came across a recipe for homemade deoderant that has worked wonders! No more itchy armpits, no more stinky armpits, no staining of clothing! If I put some on after I stink it completely takes the stink away too.

8 Tablespoons coconut oil (solid form)
1/4 cup baking soda
several drops of tea tree oil
approximatly 1/2 cup corn starch or arrowroot power

Mix coconut oil, baking soda and tee tree oil with a fork. Add corn starch or arrowroot powder until about the consistency of regular deoderant. Will harden a little after you let it set. I put mine in a little glass jar but some people put it in an empty deoderant container. It only takes about a pea-sized scoop under each armpit.

Some people who are sensitive to the baking soda may need to decrease the ammount. You can also add an essential oil if you like a particular scent.

I may have to give this one a try. I'm getting to the point that there isn't much that I can use anymore. The most recent one I tried was the one QueenOfTheMeadow linked to and I reacted to that one as well. I've been really hesitant to try the baking soda ones, though, given how many of the "natural" brands I've reacted to.

As for the sweating thing...none of the natural options will stop that. I tend to think, though, that sweating is something our bodies have evolved (or designed depending on your beliefs) to do.

I have two in my bathroom at all times.

I use the crystal roll-on after showers and it works wonderfully.

I use Tom's of Maine honeysuckle rose when I am not freshly showered. It works okay. I've tried using it freshly showered, too, and the result is no different. The other scents of TOM don't work at all for me.

I prefer a specific brand of crystal deodorant (blue label, forget the brand name), but will buy whatever the local discount store has. Just yesterday, my favorite crystal roll-on ran out and now I am using Kiss My Face lavender. In the past, I had the KMF summer scent. It worked well, but it STUNK to me. Was way too strong and got more powerful over the day. The lavender one I just started smells good and just enough scent. I don't know if the company changed how much scent it uses or if the different scents have different strengths. I prefer unscented, but don't mind certain EOs.

One thing I have noticed myself and have had confirmed by several holistic healers is that what one eats has a huge impact on body odor. Not just the obvious strong scented foods, but overall diet. When I am eating a "clean" diet of whole foods and drinking mostly water, I can skip deo on the days I do not shower. (I may be able to skip it then, too, but it is such an ingrained habit I haven't consciously done it.) When I am eating out more (vacation, especially) or drinking more "other" fluids or otherwise eating less "clean" or whole foods, then I definitely need deo every single day. In fact, last night I needed another application before we went to a fundraiser dinner. I've been eating more sugar than usual, too.....

I can't use the baking soda/coconut oil/corn starch deodorant anymore. It worked great, but I ended up getting a nasty rash after about 8 months of using it. Same with DH. It took months to get rid of the rash too. What a pain.

I now use a crystal deodorant, but it contains potassium alum. Dr. Mercola says any aluminum is bad so now I'm back to square one. It's summer and mama needs to be stink free!

Cut out the baking soda -- just use coconut oil and maybe a little corn starch if you need the anti-perspirant/powder. I had the same thing happen while I was using BS, and it was PAINFUL. Now I just use CO alone and it does the trick.

I use plain coconut oil mixed with patchouli essential oil with wonderful success.
