solid food poo

My dd is 9 months old and we've just recently introduced purrees (were doing BLW from 6 months... it's a long story). But anyway, she's just now starting to eat a lot of food and have "real" poop.
I was holding her over the sink in the traditional under the legs pose and she was pooping well that way, but now that her poop is harder, she doesn't like that anymore. She has started pooping in her diaper every time now. She does it while she's standing up and sometimes I can tell that she's pooping because she gets a little red in the face and is obviously pushing (not constipated, it doesn't upset her at all, just more work than she's used to, I think).
So my question is, how do I help her poop out of a diaper now? I really think it's a completely new experience for her and I'm not even sure she connects what she used to do in the sink, which was basically just letting go of her bowels, with this new sensation (, sorry!). Then there's also the issue of position; she still pees well with me holding her, but I don't know if she can poop that way. We have a potty, but she doesn't like to sit still, she'd rather crawl away, so that doesn't really work.
Any advice? She used to poop in the sink almost every day, at least half of her poops, and now she hasn't at all for at least a week .

My son will sit on the potty and poop if he has a toy to play with or something. You didn't say if you've tried that... For awhile he had a "potty toy" that I always gave him when he was sitting on the potty. It also helps to sit and talk to him or sing or something.

We had issues also when dd started solids. I'd recommend trying either a potty or perhaps a potty topper. We read a lot when on the potty. So I'd recommend books and toys to help lo stay put. Or if all else fails the cell phone usually entertains :-)

Just be careful that she isn't like my son and put toys in the potty WHILE POOPING...

My daughter also has been known to put toys in the potty. Or hands. Or, like today, stand up and dump the potty out (oops! back was turned) but she definitely has learned to associate the potty w/ pooping. We use toys, books, etc to keep her there for a few minutes if we think she has to poop. And I think that position (supported squat) is a good one for eliminating. It takes her a few moments after sitting on there... then I can see the poop face. She almost NEVER uses dipes for pooping. (I hesitate to type it... but its true. Maybe every 2-3 weeks, one poop miss?)

When she first had the harder solid poops she was very unpleasantly surprised.

Good luck.

when she is standing and giving obvious poop signs can you remove her diaper adn hold a bowl, potty, etc. under her. She should be able to tell the difference between I push real hard then I have messy pants have to be changed, etc or I push real hard and then it is gone. Then as she gets used to it just move the potty closer until it is touching her bum and then move it back to where she is sitting on it. Does that make since?
