BG Not Absorbing/Repelling

I stripped my BG diapers last week by washing them a couple times on the sanitary (very hot) cycle and followed up with several rinses. I did this b/c my dipes started to leak a lot and this is really unusual. It seemed to do the trick at the time.

Now, it's a week later and they are leaking again (the last wash was normal - I didn't do any extra rinses). I have never had these problems before last week (DS is 5 mo old). It seems like I need to strip them again, but I can't figure out why this is happening.

Basically, when they leak, my DS's clothes get soaked - when I pull out the insert of the diaper, it's barely wet. It seems like the urine is just going right out of the diaper and up his back.

Any thoughts?

This happened to us when we needed to go from the middle rise to the full/unsnapped rise. This worked for a few months, and now she's starting to walk and has been crawling a lot (lost some of her baby chub!) and she's slimmer in the legs. So now the medium rise fits her better, but is a tad tight. And sometimes we have leaks now, same as you. So maybe, a fit issue, rather than a wash issue?

This might be it, but we do use both a regular insert + newborn insert for overnight, on the full rise and still have the issue. Since it went away after stripping...hmm...I wonder - as I'm typing this, we did use some moisturizing cream all over and maybe some of it got on the dipes (I'm sure it did) - so, maybe we need another strip. I know I shouldn't use diaper creams with these, so should I be avoiding regular moisturizing creams? We use Weleda and Cetaphil (the cream, not the lotion).

I would take a little dish soap and put it on the micro suede and scrub the two sides of the cloth together on all the diapers. You can since it a bit and the water should go right threw it again. Then throw then in the washer and wash on hot with no soap till they are suds free.

They should be fine after that.

Same problem w/BG's!!!

I am having crazy leaks! I stripped them 3x in a row and when I put water on them after they are dry, it still repels! So instead of just going to sposies I have been putting an insert outside of the pocket and no leaks! But I only have 7 inserts! DD is 22 mos. and talking about potty and asking to go sometimes and does go on the potty when I put her there. But, I don't think she (or I) are fully ready for it. Also she is really tiny (19 lbs @ 22 mos. wearing 18 mos. clothes) so I don't even know where to find undies for her. I just want the leaks to stop! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you scrub the diaper itself with the dish soap? It helps better than just a couple washes threw the washer. When I have done it no water would go threw my diaper but after a few seconds of scrubbing when I went to rinse the diaper the water flows right threw. Also you shouldn't put the micro fiber directly against babies skin as it can cause a rash from pulling too much moisture away. There was a warning about it with the diapers.

This did the trick! I stripped the diapers 2x w/Dawn in the washing machine and some of the diapers stopped repelling, but not all. For those that still repelled, I put a tiny drop of Dawn on one dipe with some water, rubbed it in, then basically rubbed it on the next dipe until all of them were stripped with the Dawn. Then, I through them all in the wash (didn't add any extra detergent) and made sure the Dawn was rinsed out.

Now, they absorb perfectly (and the Dawn got out any stains, too!)

Highly recommend treating each diaper individually. Worth the time!

I'm just curious for future use, do you all use regullar dishsoap or does it matter? We use ecover in the house and I'm wondering what's in the dishsoap for it to work like that...would ecover do the job as well??

If your looking to strip, get some regular dawn... I have a little bottle from when my 2.0s briefly were repelling something horrible several months ago. I honestly think it was the detergent I was using (I briefly switched to ECOS and had horrible repelling issues with my 2.0s, though the 3.0s were fine. When I switched to Planet detergent, all repelling went away... )

I say try what you have first, I use what ever I have and as long as it cuts grease well it has worked just fine. If it doesn't work then go get the blue dawn.
