I have a 3 yr. old and 22 month old. Both start the night in their own spaces (crib next to bed for younger one and own bed/own room for older one). Both migrate to the family bed after a few hours (when I come to bed). Here's the problem-- they are waking each other up throughout the night due to short periods of wakefulness (typical for my 3 yr. old and due to teething for the younger one). The younger one also sleeps on top of me to make sure I don't go anywhere... so I'm uncomfortable and can't get up to pee without waking her up!! I love the family bed but we are SO TIRED.. this is not good. This is nothing like infant co-sleeping! Any suggestions?

I have a 3 1/2yo and a 22m in my bed every night (they don't have there own beds set up or a room) and I have found what works for us is to have the baby on the edge, sounds dangerous but we make it safe, you can buy a guard or depending on how your crib is set up just use that as your guard. Then the 3 1/2yo sleeps on the other side of me.
We have kicked DH out of the bed as he migrates to the middle and then the only person getting sleep is him, he is fine with our situation thank goodness.
This may work better for me as we have always coslept so they are used to each others noises and movements. (what little they can feel with me in the middle)
Hopefully you find something so everyone can get more sleep.
