Reusing Plastic Bottles

I hope this is the right forum to post this... I have never been here before. Our family is addicted to Simply Orange OJ. I hate the waste that the bottles make. Last summer I washed them out and filled them with water and froze them. They doubled as ice in our ice chest and then as they melted, drinking water while camping or roadtrips.

On the pkg it states not to reuse. Why? It is recycle code 1 which I thought was the safest. Does anyone know if this is safe? If not then what makes it safe to drink from the first time and what is another alternative to a gazzilion water bottles on a camping trip?

Thanks

sometimes I will buy that type of OJ. I usually just put the bottle in the recycle. However at times DS will swipe it for an art project, a planter, a waterbottle etc.
