So I know the causes of green stools (too much foremilk or intolerance to proteins in mom's diet), but what would cause brown stools in a 7-week-old exclusively breastfed baby? They've been happening for a week now, with no other unusual symptoms, other than that they aren't curdy/seedy, but they haven't been seedy in weeks, even though they were bright yellow. They're just kind of thick, but runny. This is not a black or burgundy colored stool that I would think would indicate blood. There's nothing bloody looking about it. It's just the color of a normal adult stool, except once it soaks into the diaper it's a lot lighter colored and more of an orange-brown. (We EC and she likes to poop lying on a diaper, but with the diaper off, so I usually see the poop when it first comes out, before it can soak in. lol)

Hi *waving* !
I'm from the marchies too.
My 7 wk old is having green stools with a bit of blood in it. I came over here looking for info on that.
I don't know what could be causing your LO's brown stools. I just wanted to say I'm there with you with the funny poops.
I hope someone has some good answers for you.

Hey there! I can answer your question. lol Usually a green stool is going to indicate oversupply or intolerance to something you're eating, but occasionally it's nothing, lol. When an intolerance, the most frequent culprit is dairy. Is the blood bright red? That is usually just from straining or something like that and generally isn't a big deal, but obviously sometimes that isn't the case.
I will say that I believe some babies just don't follow the typical yellow, seedy stool pattern once they get past the first few weeks. I don't know why, but I've seen waayyy too many people obsess and agonize over it, doing total elimination diets and everything under the sun, with no change in their babies' unusual stools. However, I still can't help worrying every time my own baby's poop looks weird. I can tell everyone else not to worry, but I can't convince myself not to.

Oh thank you!
I keep reading about the dairy thing, but I haven't had much dairy. I'm usually completely of, but have had a little. I've since completely cut it out. I thought maybe it could be something else I ate, but it's been nothing out of the norm.
I've had oversupply issues and just went bak to work, so I've been pumping alot. Plus DD has starteed eating for shorter periods of time. I think maybe that's what's going on. I'm gong to try block feeding, but I won't concern myself too much with the color.
The blood is what's really worrying me, but I think it's straining like you said. She has been straining more. I read that sitting her up when that happens helps, so I'll try that and see if things clear up in a couple days.
Thank you so much for your help. ANy luck on your poop problem?
