Hershey's cocoa

Thread Starter
I want to get some cocoa for my food allergic kiddo. I went to the Hershey's website and they say that their labels are accurate and up to date in terms of possible x-con. Does anyone know if this is true? Does anyone use Hershey's cocoa? I have a container of Hershey's cocoa here and it lists no possible x-cons.

Thanks!

What are the food allergies?
We use Hershey's Cocoa and we've never had a problem (intolerant to dairy, gluten, soy, corn, and other misc things, but no nuts).

Everything

Here is the list as we know it: dairy, peanuts, eggs, soy, wheat, coconut, banana, avocado, eggplant, white potato, and zucchini

I know you didn't ask, but Hershey's contains GMO components ( http://www.tbyil.com/GMO%20Food%20Guide.htm#chocolate scroll down to find the info). IME all GMO should also be avoided in allergy prone people (and all other living organisms) for chocolate we use Enjoy Life choc chips and Boom Boom choc bars.

As far as I know, hersheys pure cocoa powder in not GMO but the candy bars and such are because of the other added ingredients like soy lecithin, etc. Please correct me if I am wring because I am just about to go to the kitchen to make something up with cocoa powder. I try to avoid GMO stuff at all costs.

I got my chocolate fix tonight.
Chocolate chunks:
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup maple syrup or sucanat
1 cup coconut oil (we used 1/2 ghee and 1/2 palm oil)
1 tsp vanilla (we ran out so it was still good without it)

melt over double boiler
pour into wax paper lined baking sheet
refrigerate till solid and break into pieces

I put cashews into half the melted cocoa and that part was the best. It solidified half and the bottom of the mixture turned carmely gooey, yummmm.

I would love to get some raw coca powder but I think it is pricey, not sure.

That sounds so good! We've got a tree nut allergy and I was told that Hershey is one company I could trust to label cross contamination in their products.

I am celiac. I do not use hershey's.

Hershey's claims that their "natural flavors" are proprietary. I believe they are required by law to list if it contains wheat, but if you have to avoid gluten(not sure if you do) they could have barley malt or other gluten sources hidden there.

Some people like when companies have "will disclose allergens on the label" policies. I don't. Some of the things I have to avoid are not usually considered allergens, so that statement is worthless to me.

I am only concerned with the cocoa and it has no natural flavors in it, it just says "cocoa". I avoid everything that says "natural flavors" because that could mean anything.

I made that recipe I posted above again today, but this time I added gluten free brown rice crispies. OH MY MY! It was like a nestles crunch. That was my favorite candy as a kid and I never thought I could have it ever again due to allergies. So gooood!
