My son has had a dairy intolerance (allergy??) since he was born. I had to stop consuming all dairy while nursing. His main symptoms when he was smaller were extreme constipation - to the point of being hospitalized for impactions, extreme irritability, and bad tummy ache. So he's now 4 1/2 and for the past month and a bit we've been trying dairy again in the form of plain yogurt, and small amounts of cheese. We notice his poops getting harder again and he is soooooo irritable. Will cry at the drop of a hat, yells and screams, very very very short attention span, and just not the happy little guy he usually is. One other thing we notice that we aren't quite sure is related to the dairy is he has to pee ALLLLLL the time. Seriously. Yesterday when I brought him to preschool at 8:45 he went pee, he went again at 9:00 when the doors opened, I got there early at 11 and I heard that he had to go pee, so I brought him and when I talked to the teacher at 11:30 I found out he'd gone 4 times before I brought him at 11. So between 8:45 am and 11 a, he went pee 7 times. And this has been typical the past month (since introducing dairy). He probably goes pee at least 40 times a day. He drinks a significant amount....but not enough to need to go THAT much. He's had testing for diabetes before due to the constipation, and that test was negative. No complaints about burning during urination.

My DS wets the bed with dairy intolerance. For DD2, she drank so much and peed so much when she was consuming her intolerance foods (the one that I noticed it the most with was apples) that she was tested for diabetes twice. So yes, somehow it affects the bladder or something. Though if it's been a while (as in years), I'd have him tested for diabetes again just to be on the safe side, since it's just a finger prick. I'd also take the dairy back out.

When my friend suspected her ds of having diabetes, she used her niece's tester, and then called the doctor. It was easier to get a doctor's appt with numbers! But yeah, if pulling the dairy gets rid of it, I'd chalk it up to another bizarre symptom from a food intolerance (I'm just wary of diabetes because I know a lot of kids with it, so I always think you should test just to be assured, even though it's probably just the dairy intolerance).
