Stinky Sofa

The couch we have used to be nice... great upholstery.... now, it's beginning to show wear and is definitely starting to smell. DS spills stuff on it all time and due to DS's recent aversion to having his diaper changed has some... uhm.... rather unpleasant odors. The fabric was/is dry clean only & I don't have the $$ to have it professionally cleaned. Back in the day, I would have squirted some febreeze on it and been happy. Now, I would like some other type of smell killer but don't think baking soda would sink in enough to do any good and would just get baking soda everywhere. Any ideas???

We have a Bissell Little Green machine that can be used on upholstery fabric. If you don't want to use the chemicals, how about a baking soda/water and or vinegar solution in the machine. Or maybe some lavender dr. bronners? The machine runs about $75.00, but that is less than the dry cleaning. Maybe you could borrow one from someone. (do you live anywhere near nj?)

I had a little green machine that I bought to use on the couch but because the fabric is so weird it made stains, etc. worse so I sold it in a garage sale. Next time we buy furniture I'll pay more attention to fabric selection. : I'm seriously considering trying to make some slip covers that can go in the washer. Thanks for the info, though!

if it was me i'd try a little bac-out or nature's miracle or another of the enzyme cleaners on it. maybe put some in a spray bottle and mist it. can you put the cushions at least outside on a nice day? that might help.
