So I also had several issues with the book.

First, I don't understand where Charlaine Harris wants to go with the Sookie/Eric relationship. Eric didn't seem the same character in many respects.

Second, what's in the freakin' attic, already? Why hint around all novel about the family reliquary, then not follow through? Foreshadowing should not carry through to other books.

Finally, I find Sookie's response to the affection of male relatives unrealistic given her history of sexual abuse -- especially at the end of the novel.

That said, I still had fun reading it

This is just so disappointing to know!
Sounds like Charlaine Harris is just burnt out. That is the problem with a lot of these series. When they go on and on, instead of ending when they should.

As I said I Loved the Sookie Stackhouse series but I already felt the last few books were not as good. I am definitely NOT getting the hard cover.

By the Way have any of you read The Darkfever Series by Karen Marie Moning? I just finished the first 2 books. It is also very addicting like the Sookie Stackhouse novels are.

What the heck is up with Eric having two makers?

Wasn't Godric his maker? and now in this book he has a different maker? What's up with that?
Godric was his maker only in the show. They changed that.

I'm about halfway through this book and agree with much of what is said here. Unfortunately. I do think books 3, 4 and maybe 5 were the best but maybe it's just gone on too long now. I did just read the part where she kept Hunter overnight and that was cute. I enjoy the action parts (though I totally agree about her getting beaten up too much it gets dull) but also like the more "everyday" stuff like her going to work, interacting with her friends and others in town. I do love Eric and, I don't know if it just me? But their relationship seems so suddenly very different in this book. I don't mind it but it seemed very sudden to me.

This. All this.

I didn't *dislike* the book; I just don't quite get it. I actually went back and read the book previous to this, to see if I somehow had missed something between Sookie and Eric, as their relationship does read very differently to me now.

However, I will of course still read anything more in the series. It is just odd to me how some foreshadowing or clues seem to be dropped with nothing more, and how other little things turn into these huge events. Ah well.

Oooooh, thank you!!!!!!!

Im watching the 2nd season of true blood now and its funny how same and different it is, I keep getting my "facts" mixed up!

I enjoyed the book, but I agree with a lot of the criticism here. I'm not sure how Sookie and Eric's relationship morphed into something so serious.

I also hate how some things were ignored, like TFOTS. With all of the political jockeying going on, shouldn't they be right there? I think the politics and laws could have been a bigger part of this.

The holiday ones have supernatural characters, or at least, characters who think they are. They're my favorite!

I didn't think it was her best work..

I've finished it now and actually really liked it. I don't think Sookie even got beat up in this one! But I do agree it wasn't the best and I feel like she missed opportunities to write a really good story or two. What happened with Ocella (Eric's maker) was pretty lame. There could have been a good story there.

Sookie Stackhouse is the protagonist in The Southern Vampire Mysteries, a series of books written by author Charlaine Harris.Krystallos I'm sure it is the latest book.I have read this book.I like very much.

Just getting around to reading this book. A friend loaned me her copy as did not want to pay for the hardcover.

It is fun to be back in Sookie's world. I like many of the characters. It may not be the deepest writing but it sure is entertaining!

I have only read the first few chapters but Please don't tell me that Basim al Saud, first and only Arab character in the Sookie Stackhouse series is going the be the villain! I will be so upset!

Jalilah, I'll spoilerize this in case you really don't want to know
Warning :: Spoiler Ahead! Highlight to read message!

Ok, I won't tell you then. :-)

(I was disappointed, too.)

I've got the first Dark Fever and Mercy Thompson (?) books on request from the library. They look good!

It is okay; you can let me know...even if It’s disappointing.

Oops, sorry if I was being too cryptic and cute in my spoiler. By it I did mean yes he's one of the villains. Too bad, too. I was immediately interested in his character as soon as he was introduced. (Sayid was my favourite on Lost! LOL)

I finished it this weekend and agree with everyone here. It's was kinda pointless. Nothing even really happened. I was dissappointed. But I'll still read more of them when they come out.
