37w5d and DS has Chicken Pox!

My son, almost 2, was diagnosed this morning with CP. I am not freaking out just have a lot of questions.

I had them in kindergarten so, the baby is safe as long as he is in me, right?

DS did not receive the vax, so I expect he will have the full blown 7-10 days cycle of it. What if baby comes before that? How long after DS is scabbed before it would be safe to bring them together?

My mom thinks that since the baby will still have my immunities from the PG and I will be breastfeeding, he should be reasonably safe. What do you think of this?

I have a call into my MW, but am not expecting a call back right away. I was hoping maybe someone could help me out in the mean time. Anyone BTDT (a stretch, I know)?

from everything i've read on this - you should be just fine, and your baby should be fine. l have read that it is very rare for BF babies of mom's who HAD chickenpox to get chicken pox before 1 year.. i wonder too if you are exposed if that helps to boost your immunity and antibodies? i'm not sure about that one.. i would probably limit contact if your baby comes before he is over it..

usually its not longer than 10-14 days before they are not contagious anymore.. so just hold that baby in til 40 weeks and you should be great

It goes pretty quickly. Spots appear for the first 3 days and start to scab over. Should not be contagious after day 5 but 7 at the latest. Also chicken pox is airborne but its most contagious the day before they break out and the first 3 days.

If the baby is breastfeed you should be fine.

Also the child who my son got the chicken pox from had just had a newborn while her son had chicken pox. Her newborn never caught them.

Ditto to all the other posters...I don't think you have anything to worry about for you or your unborn little one, mama! The little ones seem to get over it quickly too...I think it helps that they don't really understand what itching is, so they don't scratch as much although are fussy!

It's also amazing how our bodies can 'hold' onto our baby until things are 'safe'. I would be really surprised if your little one came early. Assuming your history isn't to go early, I would suspect that your CP-ridden fellow will be well over it by the time baby arrives. I hope your mw has more reassuring words to set your mind at ease.
