This thread is cracking me up because I just spent the whole day using KoolAid and icing colors to dye playsilks!! How much fun is this! I love seeing how the colors turn out, and my almost 3 yo is having fun just playing in the water rinsing everything. This is our first time, and everyone wants to help.

I have to agree, the icing colors are more subtle and have a broader range, and it takes so little to transform undyed silk into deep colors. I love the bright Kool Aid colors too though, I think a good playsilk wardrobe needs all of them!

I have just started knitting and have become a bit obsessed!! I am knitting some longies (LTK) for my DD. I have a question - can you dye wool that is already dyed? OR do you always have to start with undyed (natural) wool?

Thank you!!

So noone else has problems with kool aid dyes running and fading? I have two wahm soakers (made by same WAHM) one kool aid dyed and one made with comertialy dyed yarn and the kool aid one bleeds with evey wash and has faded quite a bit but the comertially dyed one seems to be totally stable.

Yep, you can dye dyed wool. I had some yellow wool that I tested w/ red Kool Aid and it made a nice reddish orange. Give it a try!

I have a KSS and it does bleed a little if I leave it soaking too long. It is still vibrant and beautiful though.

Have you tried setting the color in the microwave or w/ vinegar?

Thanks pb&j!!! I am going to try. My mum bought me some wool that is a garish shade of pink - I am going to try and darken it to a purple.

Thanks

Emma
