How long does it take to see results in DD.
We're having some issues with green stools with blood and so far I've stopped all dairy and peanuts. How long should I give it until I figure it must be something else?
How long does it take something to get out of your system, so it won't be in the breast milk?

With ds (and wheat), he was much better in 3 days. BUT, I think the norm is 2-4 weeks, longer for some things. (And he did continue to improve after those 3 days.)

So, it takes 2 to 4 weeks to get out of YOUR body, and then ANOTHER 2-4 weeks to get out of theirs totally.

It's hard to do, but have you considered doing an elimination diet the other way? Only eat a few foods for a week or two, and then start adding things back in. The reaction will probably (though, admittedly, not always) be fairly quick and obvious.

What kind of blood? Bright red blood would be from the lower GI tract and usually has nothing to do with food sensitivity.

Yep, it's bright red. Little bits of it in some of the stools.
I thought that would mean an irritation in the bowel because of some allergy or food sensitivety.
Am I going about this the wrong way?
Also, she has been straining during BM's. Which I don't understand because breastmilk poops are so liquidy. Why would she be straining?

My ds & dd had allergic colitis which is bleeding in the colon due to a food "allergy". I put quotations there because it's typically something they outgrow, not a true food allergy like you see in adults.

2-4 weeks is usually the norm especially for dairy. Look up allergic colitis and that will give you lots of info. Dairy & soy are typically the worst. My son was bad, had blood in his stool up to age 4 and reacted to a lot. We never got it to go away completely as an infant. And, I would suggest being under the care of a physician for this as it can cause failure to thrive and anemia. My son had to be on iron supplements because he was so anemic.

And, I don't know why, but all my breastfed babies have strained horrible with bm's. But, with allergic colitis, my ped explained it like this: there are little pustules, almost like a zit, in there colon that pop and bleed. When the stool passes through it hits those raw sores and causes pain. So, for your dd, it may be pain from the bleeding issue rather than just from passing a stool.

Wondering how old your dd is? Wish both my kids it started around 2-4 weeks. And, it was the green stool also with the blood.

I'm sorry you had to go through that with your DS, but thank you much for all the info. Wow, I cant beleive he had to deal with that for 4 yrs even without the dairy and soy.
She is 8wks old today. The stool issues just started last Saturday.
I'm really hoping to figure this out soon.

I wanted to mention that they don't typically diagnose a food allergy/reaction until 3 weeks of symptoms-at least that's what I was told with my son. Intestinal illnesses don't last more than 3 weeks but can have same/similar symptoms-green, loose, mucousy, bloody stools. They tested my son for all kinds of intestinal bacteria before the allergic colitis diagnosis. You just may want to consider having her under a dr's care for this just in case it isn't a food issue. I hope she's doing better.

Hi, thanks for checking in!
Her stools are better. Blood free for the past couple of days. A little mucus here and there. Varying from yellow to green, which I'm not worried about.
Hopefully whatever it was has cleared. I'm still staying off of dairy, soy and peanuts for now.
