Now on to the textbooks

Hi,

Like I said in a previous post I'm really working on decluttering, simplifying and decreasing the chaos in my home. Another area that is holding me up is textbooks! I have tons and tons of science and nursing textbooks! I have this idea that I will sell them at a community college book buy back, but never make it. I have also tried checking a couple IBS # from people who buy them online...well no luck, I think they are too outdated.

So what do you think, I want them to go to use anyone know of a good org. that would give to students in need in Africa or other impoverished country?

I think wanting them to go to good use is holding me up, however they are definitely not being utilized just sitting on my bookshelves.

Well, I know that our community college book store will still collect outdated textbooks and they donate them to Africa. So maybe your's has a similar program? They won't "buy them back" but at least they are going to a good cause.

If you want to try and sell them. I have used them both and they offer great service. Good luck!!!

I left ours on the curb & someone took them. Before that I had offered them on freecycle (but the responder had transportation issues) but I bet if you just drop them off at a local college (maybe at the library or the nursing department) some students would love them, even if they are not the course-required books.

Contact the schools you went too..they might take a donation or give you some money. Set up an ad to give them to student whom I am sure would appreciate them for free.

OK, an nursing student at work took most of the nursing texts, I think I'm going to keep the Nursing Fundamentals and the Sciences for homeschooling my two kidos. Migth be just an excuse Its hard for me to let go of the books, funny I donated most of our novels and other books, I just have difficulty with the text books and love, love kids books!

We are accumulating kids' books & starting to look like a bookstore but I don't mind because we actually do read them all almost daily (DS loves loves loves to read!!) But the textbooks sat in a stack for a long time untouched. I always wanted to save them for reference or whatever but I finally got rid of them. If you don't read them right now, toss them!! Especially science, they may be out of date by the time you get around to reading them again, and you can always get textbooks cheap/free off a college student if you want them down the line.

I got rid of a bunch of our text books---anywhere from 5-15 yrs old depending on the subject. And we even got a little bit of cash for them. Check to see if you've got a Half Price Books near you! But if you have a local drop for a donation, that's a terrific idea too.

I kept the ones that did directly relate to my major and sold the rest back to the college.

You can donate them through Better World Books:

I'm pretty sure they will pay for the shipping too!
