I feel a thousand pounds lighter!!
We recently bought a new home, and weren't sure how much we would net from the sale of our old home, but the amount we estimated happened to be exactly how much we owed on our credit card. The house was in great shape, but there were a few projects (new furniture for one room, a built-in desk, etc.) we wanted to do, but after discussing it we were 100% committed to using every cent to pay off our credit card before spending anything on fluffy stuff like that. I was proud of our resolve, and we talked about how every time we sat on our old stained couch we could console ourselves with the knowledge that we were responsible, debt-free people.
So, escrow closed, and we ended up getting back twice as much as we had hoped! So we paid off our credit card, got the new furniture, and beefed up our savings (which we already had somewhat and had refused to touch during home-buying) to a nice comfy level -- it feels incredible, and I just had to share!!
