for his uti. Its been 4 days and he starting to say that his penis hurt when he pees. The end of the foreskin is very red but thats all i notice physically. His pee looks normal. We went monday to give another urine sample to get it checked make sure his uti is gone but now he is saying it hurts to pee again. Do you guys think he may be getting another uti or something else?

Does he maybe have some lint trapped in there? I know my ds would often get lint or some other fabric fibers trapped just in the tip of the foreskin. I would soak him in water and have him (not me) pull back as far as he felt comfortable so I could see and sure enough, there it was.
On another note, is he getting enough water to drink? My other ds would always complain of pain while urinating but there wasnt any infections. Turns out it was just "strong" pee for him.
How old is your ds? I would often crush up cranberry pills in yogurt for my boys. (they didnt like the juice when they were younger)
Good Luck!

He is 4 yrs old. ive been very careful since his uti with him not touching his penis with dirty hands and even when he pees i place toilet paper down so his penis doesnt touch toilets since some toilets are taller than others. You can crush the cranberry pills? I took them for a while and it changed pee color to the color of the pill. He doesnt like cranberry juice as well. Ill try and have him sit in the bath for while here in a lil. he drinks a lot of water atleast 5 16oz sports bottles of water a day

If you buy the cranberry capsules, you just have to open them up. Waaay easier.
I like using yogurt b/c I find the "tangy-ness" hides it a bit better. Just a couple mouthfuls then I chase it with choc milk. (If you use cows milk)
I would suggest checking for lint then. Its amazing what come rub off with undies, jammies, etc. Him simply "adjusting" on the outside of his clothes can get those suckers in there.
We encountered alot of stray fibers when my ds was about 4-5 too.

Sometimes there can be residual pain after the bacteria is gone. Can your doc give him something for that? There's a pill that coats things until the pain is gone...it makes your pee bright orange.
Hydration can also help...a lot. Be careful with the bath (no bubbles or anything) because it can irritate things even more.

I dont know if she would have anything shes been telling me to retract him lil by lil in the bath but i have not followed her orders at all when it comes to that. He doesnt really get any baths anymore he gets quick showers and make sure to rinse him off down there towards the end to make sure no soap residue is left on him. Are the pills you talking about the cranberry pills they sell at teh store cause ive gotten those for myself and it turned my pee bright orange?

No, it's a pain reliever made specifically for UTIs. I can't remember for the life of me what they're called...

I just checked and nothng the opening is fairly small and i could see a lil of his meatus which was pink. I think i know the pills AFwife is talking about i actually have some from when i had my uti back in nov. Ive had him on probiotics these past few days to help him since i know the antibotics wipe out his good bacteria in his tummy and he has always had constipation issues and the probiotic mix in his water seems to have helped with that. Ill just have to keep a close eye on him today and tommrow see if it goes away.

Was your ds retracted at the time of his urine sample ? If so that could be where the pain is coming from because there are possibly tears that resulted from the retraction leaving an open wound then as the urine passes by it may end up burning your son while he's peeing . Try having him pee in a cup of warm water to see if that helps if it does then it is more likely urine burn . Feels like when you have a paper cut & you get juice from tomatoes or orange going over it it's Ouch that you have to put it in the water .
Do you use soap on his foreskin ? If so I would stop because sometimes soap can get into the urinary opening hence creating a UTI .
Do not follow your doctors orders because she is giving you wrong advice so do not mess with his foreskin at all.
You shouldn't even check to see his meatus opening I only saw my son's meatus opening when he was forcefully retracted and when he retracted himself.

Hurting with peeing can be lots of things, one being that the inside of the foreskin or surface of the is irritated in some way, and stings when exposed to urine i.e. have nothing to do with the actual urinary tract. After a round of antibiotics, I'd be suspicious of a yeast infection. Antibiotics kill of the good bacteria as well as the bad bacteria. The good bacteria keep a healthy balance in the foreskin area, but without them you can can get an overgrowth of yeast sometimes.
There are prescription (internal as well as topical cream) and over the counter (topical) yeast medications. Also, frequent (4-5X/day) application of liquid acidophilus to the penis (put some in the palm of your son's hand, have him dip the penis in, let it air dry on), can help reestablish the floral balance of the area.

He's not complaining anymore when he goes to urinate. He's never been retracted. I hold the urine cup at the doctors for him to pee in. as for me checking him earlier was checking to make sure he didnt have toilet paper or lint near there. He does tend to get toilet paper to wipe the trickle of pee after he is done peeing he doesnt like to shake his penis to get the last drops in the toilet. the redness at the end of his foreskin is gone as well.
