A mother asked to cover up at a city swimming pool in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada last week received an apology from the city.

Quote:
Following Dezort's complaint, staff have been reminded that breastfeeding is allowed at all city facilities.

"In fact, we welcome it," he said, "and have asked our staff to specifically accommodate parents that have any baby needs — breastfeeding, diapering, all of those things."

I would have liked to have seen a statement about the importance of breastfeeding from Ottawa Public Health accompany the apology. The apology came quickly and was definitive though - breastfeeding in swimming pools is welcomed in Ottawa. Kudos to the city for acting quickly.

It happened again, this time in Winnipeg. The Mayor apologised to the mum. But much to our delight, she didn't leave it there. She orchestrated a nurse-in at the offending pool with a bunch of her buddies!
