backyard pond- fish or frogs

We have a small yard that has a old pond insert in the ground. Does anyone have a frog pond?

I think it would be fun to have frogs in the backyard but I don't really know where to start. Would I need to run a filter? or can I just fill the pond and put some water plants in it?

Putting in o2 creating plants will help.I have read the movement of the water deters the skeeters.I got a kit once from walmart that had a liner and a hippo pump that shot water out of the mouth into the pond. I have frogs in my dinky little pond.I see some tadpoles and water skaters too.You might want the fountain atleast until there are enough frogs and stuff to eat the skeeter larvea in a *still* pond.

If you can hear spring peepers then chances are you have frogs and toads around.I just came across a huge toad sitting in my garden.Dragon flies will also come around.

Do your pond and wait.You could get some tadpoles from someone to kick start things.

The water isn't so clear anymore,plenty of weeds around too....but lots of frogs!

I forgot to mention we did add a few 25 cent feeder goldfish.They did fine but ate my tads.They died when I replaced to much of the water at once.I would bring them in during the winter.I brought in some toads/frogs during winter too.A must for small ponds,or you just let the cycle start over fresh each spring,and clean out the dead animals.
