Nursing and Clothes

Do you use nursing tops or tanks, like the glamourmom-style tanks? Do you like them? Any tips for getting cheap ones? Is there a good, supportive tank out there? I'm tired of exposing my belly flab and am considering investing . . . all advice welcome! Hmmm . . . if this belongs in Breastfeeding, please feel free to move!

I use Target brand tanks. I like them well enough. I have one Glamour Mom one, but it's not that much more supportive IMO. I've also just cut slits in a few of my beaters. Those work great with any nursing bra, although I usually just wear them with a t-shirt/sweatshirt because you can see the slit if you have on a tighter shirt.

ETA: I'm around 38DDDish when nursing and I wear anywhere from size medium-XXL in the Target tanks with no problem. I'm not big on support though, so if you're used to being propped up, they might not seem that good. I don't feel comfortable just wearing the tank in public either, I'm too big chested for that IMO.

I went to a store and tried on a glamormom, bravado and one other brand of nursing cami/tank, then I looked at the price tag. I find that the nursing camis from target do the job. they aren't super supportive (I'm a 34E they may be more supportive for smaller girls) and they are not modest enough for wearing alone (for me, ymmv) but they work fine around the house and under shirts.

I've got a bunch of tanks from Target and wear them every day. I'm 34D and wear size medium. I have two different types: one with the thin T layer with boob holes and an outer layer that unsnaps, and another in a different fabric with only the outer layer. The latter is a little more supportive, I think. They've also held up to 9 months of wash and wear.

I live in Texas and wear them as my only top in the summer because I find it too hot to wear two layers.

ETA: The tops with the boob holes (I don't know how else to describe them ) I find to be too obscene for NIP, IMO.

ditto for target. i'm a 36DD and i was amazed at how great they worked. they actually felt more supportive than the crappy nursing bras i had. i finally broke down and ordered a bulletproof bra online but i couldn't live without the target tanks in the house and at night

I wear nursing bras (anita and bravado - though bravado is my favorite) with a normal cami under most of my shirts. the cotton cami's I just pull down a little when I lift my top shirt up. I have 42G's so, well, I've not really tried any nursing tanks. I have a couple from motherwear, but they don't have a built in bra, just boob-holes.

Nursing tanks aren't supportive enough, but are too bulky and complicated if I put a bra underneath. So I just keep wearing my bella band. It's served me well.

I have been pretty much living in glamourmom tanks. I hate any kind of bra with a passion to begin with. I just wear them AS my only shirt with some jeans or a skirt. I think this works ok for me bc pre-baby I was an A cup, and nursing I am around a 36C. I also love them bc they are long enough for me, I'm really tall. I need to check out the target ones still!

Oh, I hear ya! I have tried a few things and for me what works best is an inexpensive non-nursing tank top - a very thin one, beneath most shirts. I have a few from H&M and Gap. Both stores seem to carry long tank tops which works out well for me as I'm tall. I just lift UP my overshirt and pull DOWN the tank over the breast to nurse. Then I pull the overshirt down over the breast towards baby's mouth and I find I'm somewhat covered. I am quite large-breasted (38G) though, so I still use my cover sometimes, if DS will let me. Oh, and I've given up on nursing bras in public, as NONE of the many I've wasted precious $ on can support my girls. I wear a normal underwire bra and just pull down the cup and flip by breast over. Now if that's not glamour mom, I don't know what is!

I love the Bravado bras and tanks. I'm surprised that the big-breasted women here like the Target brand tanks, the ones with the boob holes. I tried one of those, and I'm only a 38D, and the boob holes squeezed my breasts enough that they left boob-hole marks! And it was quite uncomfortable.

But the Bravado gear rocks, I think. I usually just use a nursing cover when NIP. This is a great site for nursing tanks/bras, BTW:

Another vote for Target nursing tanks. At $16.99 they are really supportive and wash and wear well over time. I've got some that are going strong 2+ years later.

Check out the magic middle. It was marketed by a mom here in Arizona. It is a tank minus the boob-area. It covers your tummy.That way you can lift your shirt up and not be exposed.

Personally, I use the cheap shirts from Motherhood Maternity. I mean cheap as in quality. But they are easy on the budget when on clearance. I have some glamourmom tanks. They are good, good quality cotton and thick. They keep the flab fantastic. I wear those around the house since I don't wear a shirt at home. Sorry for the TMI. At most I wear a tank or a wrap nursing bra.

I have pretty much all the shirts Motherhood sells, and they all have different access methods. I really like them. Easy shirts.Good luck.

I mostly live in the Glamourmom ones -- the long length. Which makes them even pricier, but it's so much more compatible with my pants...

I just got a Bravado Essential Nursing Bra Tank. I liked it more than I was expecting -- stretchier, more synthetic fabric than the Glamourmom, much more supportive bra (they come in cup sizes), but still long enough in the body. It's cut lower, though, low enough to make it less appropriate as an exposed garment -- and the entire cup drops for nursing -- terrifically comfortable, but might put me further out on the NIP spectrum than I usually go.

I tried a Target tank with DD1, and hated it -- but that was several years ago, and they're probably different now.

I have 4 target tanks (LOVE them) and 1 bravado tank. I've been wearing these daily for about 15-16 months now. Easy to wear and sleep in, plus pair with a cute cardi and you are ready to go out! Target ones are great for my 38B-40C (size L). Bravado one is nice, but I don't think it's worth the $$ (I got mine on clearance for like $25, but still).

I have a dozen or so snug fitting plain cotton tank tops that I bought off the clearance rack for $2/each. I cut slits in them for my J-cup boobs and I wear them under a not-too-tight top. That way I can lift the top up and still have belly coverage. I've been using them for nearly 2 years and they still haven't unravelled at all, so finishing the cut edge does not appear to be necessary.

I absolutely adore them! The Glamourmom nursing tanks are the best in the market. I've tried different brands prior to the tanks come with a full built-in soft-cup frame and elastic shelf so it's completely supportive. They also have the long tanks for those of us who like to layer the tank with other shirts/cardigans, or for ladies with longer torsos. The long tanks do a great job of covering the new mommy tummy.

I think some ladies were mentioning that they were had fuller busts. I wear the Full Bust Long Top - It a really well made tank, its cut longer to cover the tummy, has wider elastics to provide additional support, adjustable chest band in the back of the elastic so you can adjust the width - just like a bra,

I wish I would have seen comment thread last week, as I bought a couple of them on zilily when they had a 40% sale. I think ebay has a lot of these tanks.

I have E/F boobs now thanks to pregnancy/nursing so I use bravado nursing tanks. They offer better support for my giant boobs than glamourmom or anything else I've tried, but they are easier to use than wired/padded nursing bras. I prefer wired/padded bras because they support me better but they are hard to fold down to nurse so I have to go a step down.. the tank feels better than the other bras I could have gotten and it covers my mid drift so it was only one purchase.

they are expensive but I live in them so I've gotten more than their worth out of them.. I tried different stuff the first two months and these are the only things I go back to. I like that I can wear them with regular clothes.
