how does your ds pee in public bathrooms?

sorry if this is a dumb question, but we just started the going out in underwear part of potty training (hence lots of trips to bathrooms) so this is a whole new thing to me. at home ds stands on a stool to be able to pee standing up most times, but he also pees while sitting sometimes too. do i just have him sit to pee when we're out somewhere with no stool or do i hold him up? i've also seen portable folding potty seats so he won't fall in either for not too much $, anyone used these?

Everyone sits down to use the bathroom in our house, so we do the same in public places. Our eldest is big enough that he's not worried about falling in at public restrooms, but our youngest is still small enough that he holds onto the sides of the toilet and I support his back if he needs me too. We just make sure to wash hands really well afterwards!

In the beginning ds sat as that is how he pees at home, but now he HAS to stand and so that is what we did in public.

Let me just say, I had ds sit when potty learning for a reason, way. less. pee. on. my. floor. lol. It recently has gotten worse, I swear his main goal is to spray the entire toilet seat before his bladder is empty.

Sorry, not part of your question but have cleaned the toilet seat every time I've gone to the bathroom today and needed to vent.

My 4 year old sits to pee at home and other places. When he is older and decides on his own to try a different way, I just hope he is also old enough to wipe up the toilet seat too.

DS sits to pee at home and out (he will not pee standing up). I do use a folding potty seat or I bring our little Ikea potty in a cloth shopping bag.

When DS was first potty learning he didn't feel comfortable sitting on the folding seat on the big toilet so I used to bring the little potty everywhere we went. Just these last 2 weeks he is feeling more comfortable sitting on the folding seat so I usually leave the potty in the car (but great for parks!)

I had terrible luck with folding potty seats. They just collapsed and scared my ds. Tried 3 of them. DS is small and can't sit on the big seats yet so this is what we do. We both face the back of the toilet and I hold him in front of me (hands around his lower legs) with his pants around his ankles and feet kind of propped on the back of the seat. In effect he kind of uses me as his seat. Just make sure you have the pants far enough out of the way.

ds will not pee sitting at home and hasn't since before he learned how to crawl (We're "lazy EC'ers") so I bring a mason jar or tupperware for him to pee in when we're out and about and empty it in the toilet when he's done.

You could use a paper cup if that's less icky for you, but I'd personally find that more icky than something I could rinse out and reuse.

I've forgotten to bring something on more than one occasion and he's peed sitting because he had to.

My 2 year old has been out of diapers for almost a month now. When we're out I don't even try to get him to sit on the toilet b/c his little bum is too little.
He prefers to pee standing anyway.

So I squat in front of the toilet, then let DS stand on my leg facing the toilet. I help aim his penis in the right direction and he goes. He's still pretty small, so I'm not sure how long that will work for, but it works for us for now.

My boys all sit to pee (for reasons of respect....I do not allow them to stand in my home or as guests in anyone else's home). I do allow them to stand in a public restroom, but honestly they prefer to sit usually. I helped them 'mount', and held them up until they got big enough to sit on their own....I actually find that the gap in the front of the seat in lots of public restrooms helped them to balance better because they have to spread their legs wide in front....they'd usually put one hand in back to stabilize and one hand to hold their penis down (uncirced, so aiming can be....unpredictable!). My middle son likes to sit facing the back of the toilet. He can hold onto the tank for support.

Until they'd been using the potty for quite a while, I did have to count on all the clothes on the bottom coming off at every pee-stop.

I second the mason jar method. We keep one in the car....I'd be at a loss if I ever have a girl now!
