Frustrated with Bum Genius 3.0

My DH and I are VERY frustrated with our BG 3.0! It doesn't keep our girls dry overnight. And it also doesn't keep our girls dry if they used it only for 3 hours!

My DH and I suspect that our previous washer may have weakened the liners of our diapers (even though the liners and diapers are visually just fine) and we're debating on throwing all 24 diapers away and buy a new 12 pack to give BG 3.0 one more chance.

We have always used charlie's soap to wash these diapers. We used longer insert on our girls (they're 1 yrs old) and we are wondering if we're doing anything wrong.

How do you keep your babe dry with this diaper?

Where is the wetness coming from? Are their clothes wet? How old are they? How often are you changing them?

The whole diaper and their clothes become soaked wet! I change them every three hours (during their feeding times) or when it is necessary to change them. Like I said in my 1st post..they're 1 yrs old.

Many cloth users do change more often than every 3 hours, so you may get that input.

Whatever you do, don't throw away the BG! You can easily sell them with the disclaimer that you've had leakage. Heck, I would be happy to take them if it came down to ie

Down to your problem: all the usual things, like have you stripped them? Hot washes w/no detergent?

You could also just buy an inexpensive cover & fitted diaper or prefold and try those, to test out if it is the BG or if other dipes can't handle it either.

ETA: I am not kidding about not throwing them out! Pretty please!

I would do a quick scrub on each diaper with some dawn. I have bg that are 2 yo and I stuff them with 2 pf at night and the pfs are soaked in the am but her butt is dry to the touch. I have used and abused my diapers (I only had 18 for 2 kids) and they are still functioning/and look like new. (I did convert them to snaps)

I don't think they are trash and my dd goes all night long with out a change.

as a pp mentioned, they probably need to be changed more than every three hrs if possible. are you using both inserts at night? if i want our dd to go more than 1.5 hrs, i have to put both inserts in our pocket diapers, because she's a heavy wetter.

three hours is probably too long. We used BG 2.0 and I don't think we ever went more than 2hours w/o a change except at night.

Also, these are pockets, yes? you could try stuffing in an additional liner. At night we always double stuffed ours.

They could also need stripping.

I use bumgenious AIO and the Flip system. I have the same problem as u with the bumgenious. I have found that they only last about 2 1/2 hours or so...DS is 13 months. I really think it is because the fabric is stitched so close to the outside and it gets saturated and leaks. My flips i can easily go 4 hours with no problem. I use the flips when at home and the bumgenious for convenience. I rarely let ds go 4 hours but on long car rides it does happen and he does fine. Also, the Flips seem better for his skin. The bumgenious sometimes gives him a rash :/

My only suggestion would be to change sooner or use two systems like i do. I agree with everyone else...Keep them!

Over night, I try to remember to double-stuff my bgs (I use one regular fold-down type and one newborn insert)... duringt he day I change as needed which is usually ever 1.5-2 hours. If I go much more, I do get leakage just cause' their soaked through - though it usually only comes out through the top or one side or something and I catch it and realize 'crap! its been a while hasn't it!'

Definetly don't throw them away though!!

Mine leak too, sometimes. And then when I check the insert, it can even be dry on the edges. So leaks, but dry insert... I'm wondering if it's a fit issue for us, since DD seems to be between sizes right now, and we are squeezing her into the medium setting rather than the large, which is too large.
