"fast voices"

Hello. I am hoping someone here might be able to offer me some guidance.

My 6 year old has been having episodes where she says "voices are fast" - and she'll be far away from me trying to touch or kiss me, saying she "can" touch me from far away. If I'm close, she'll poke me.

She's healthy with no special needs, but this is starting to concern me. It's been happening for about 4 days now, initially happening right before bed, when she was exhausted and possibly dehydrated from a long day playing at the beach. We just got home yesterday, had a normal night sleep, and we were hoping that we could just blame it on exhaustion ... but she's doing it again.

Hmm...strange.

You were on vacation? Is it possible that she saw something on tv and her imagination is running wild on her? For example, I remember when I was a little girl I thought that I could do some of the science-fiction stuff I watched on Star Trek. My 5 year old thinks that he can "use the force" to open doors (loves it when it's an automatic door and "the force" actually works!)

So I wonder could this just be 6 year old imagination?? I have no idea really!

no, I don't think it's her imagination - she'll come to me and say (fast) "voices are really fast" - or she'll speak really slow and say "are the voices really fast?" "do I sound normal?"

the poking thing is like you might poke at a hologram to figure out if it's real - like she's poking to figure out how far away I am.

We didn't have tv or "do" anything on this trip except hang out with grandparents and play on the beach - she played really hard and probably didn't drink enough water - got a little sunburn on her face. Friday night, she went to bed on her own at 8:00 - in her clothes. Saturday night, she went to bed early again - but she brushed her teeth and put on pjs first - then she told me that she heard fast voices. She did the voices thing in the morning and right before bed each night. Tuesday night at dinner, she did the voices thing for about 2 minutes.

I'm the only person she'll say it to - my husband hasn't witnessed it. I tried to get more information when she did it an hour ago, without concerning her - she says she doesn't have a headache. I tried to get her to eat and drink water ... but she said she wasn't hungry. She did eat an egg and some peanut butter pretzels finally.

p.s. I did put in a call to our family doctor, but I don't really know what else to do.

With the poking things that seem close--maybe it's her eyesight that needs to be checked?

Hmm...her depth perception could be off for some reason, and her equilibrium too (which could cause voices to sound weird). Were you somewhere she's never been, perhaps some allergy flare up?? You'd think she'd complain of a headache or you'd see a runny nose or something though.

I have no idea!!

I was thinking possible equilibrium problem too. Is she a rough-and-tumble kind of kid? Does she sleep in weird positions or on her stomach? My oldest has a bad habit of sleeping on his stomach with his pillow over his head and throws his neck out of place, which leads to ear infections sometimes...He's never complained of feeling dizzy or anything like that, but we take him to a chiropractor regularly to make sure he stays in line. You mentioned you were at the beach. She might have water stuck in her ears, and that could be distorting her hearing. Just some ideas to consider

Could be a complex partial or frontal lobe seizure. My daughter has complex partials (among many other types of seizures). She will tell me she hears buzzing and that she feels slow.
