shoe sizes - how fast do their feet grow (1yo)

I ordered a pair of sandals online for DS - 13mos. They're Smaller by See Kai Run & I got size 12-18mos. I measured his foot against their charts & thought the size lower would be too small.

They arrived today & seem big. If I slide his toes to the front, I can fit my finger in behind his foot. They're sandals so I'm not planning to put them on with socks. My idea was that he'd wear these this summer, starting in a few weeks or so through September. Will they fit him? Will his feet grow that fast?

He is just starting to walk & so far has not worn shoes. I got these for when we'll be outside & he'll be walking. I don't want him to trip, though!!

TIA for any advice.

Of course, it varies kid by kid But my DD outgrew her 12-18 month Robeez right at about 18 months but the 18-24 month size still seem big on her at 19 months now. She has a pair of SKR but they are size 6 so I don't know about the 12-18 month SKR shoes. But kids spurt sometimes and I feel like she barely wore any size 5, she went straight from size 4 into 5.5 and 6 as she gained a couple inches of height. So she is 19.5 months in size 6 but she has a tall friend (also a girl) who is just turning 2 and is in a size 9! Good luck figuring it all out

I have heard that the average is about 1/2 size every 3 months. We've only been wearing shoes here for about 6 months, starting with a 5 and now she's a 6, so maybe that's right. But most shoes we look at don't have half sizes, so she started wearing the 6's when they were biiiiig.

My kids have short fat feet. My DD1 was size 2 until around 9 months of age and then her feet grew and she was in a size 3 by her 1st birthday. Her feet haven't stopped since then, in fact, she's a size 7 now at 28mos old!

It really varies.

I got my DS his first pair of shoes at almost 14 months and they are a size 4.5, he is now almost 16 months and they still fit. I don't think his feet have grown at all. I want to get him sandals for the summer, but I'm worried that he is all of a sudden going to have a growth spurt. So I'm waiting a bit longer, just to see how things go. But I think his sandals for the summer probably won't be any bigger than a 5 at this rate. And he will be 17-20 months old when he needs them.

It really varies from child to child. My DD is 16.5 months and we buy a 4. Her actual size is 3.5, but we have to buy 4's.

Yeah, I think it really depends on the child. DD's first pair of shoes were size 5 squeaky red pair. She wore those from 13 mo till 15 mo. Around 15 mo, we got Stride Rite sneakers size 5.5, she wore those until 17 mo. Now she has a pair of Old Navy sandals & a pair of Pediped (both size 6) that are a little loose but OK. So, we've had to get new shoes every 3 months or so so far!

If you can barely fit your pinky behind the child's foot, it's OK to wear by me. If the shoes are too big, keep them for now. If they are too big by end of summer, then they might even fit next summer. If not, you can always sell them off then.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! We decided to keep the shoes & hopefully, DS will be able to wear them in a month or so.

I finally got clothing sizes all figured out & now there's shoes sizes to learn too!!

Of course, different brands have different sizes. Soooooo annoying!

My kid has had teeny feet. She didn't even fit into Size 1 until almost her first birthday. She could walk (10mo) long before we could find shoes that fit.

Last summer at between 12 to 15 months she wore a size 2W runner. She kind of skipped size 3 altogether and is now in a size 4 at 22 months.

My DS's feet were too big for any soft soles by the time we were needing them at around 7 mo. I had to have some wool felt boots custom made for that winter, and then in the spring, when he was the same age as your DS, I started sewing leather soft soles for him. Let me tell you-over the course of about three months, I was sewing a new pair about every three weeks, a size bigger each time. His feet just went through an explosion. So, my opinion would be that your DS will be wearing those little sandals in no time at all.

Of course mine is 24 months and in a size 11 wide, so I really don't have much experience with more normal foot growth.
