I thought about this last night...

I only clean my colander when it looks dirty...

I rarely wash my coffee pot. Why bother? Nothing but hot, acidic coffee goes in there. I will wash it when it gets really brown....

I read a book written by a professional chef and he claims that is the only way you SHOULD clean a non-stick pan. He says non-sticks should not be submerged in water or put through a dishwasher and no detergent of any kind applied. A quick rinse and wipe out with a clean towel is all he recommends as the heat will kill any stray germs.

OK, my kitchen is definitely not spotless or sanitized every day but I am officially NOT eating at someone's house anymore if they have a dog!! Maybe it is just because we don't have one, so I can't relate--but licking out the pots and pans and dishes? Eeek!!!

I think the comments on the original article were a little harsh though!! Pigs, with no pride? I didn't think the confessions were THAT bad!! Maybe my house is dirtier than I thought...

They get washed after the dog licks them out, so they're no dirtier than any other dish in someone's house.

Well, like I said, maybe since I don't have dogs I just can't relate! But I can't stomach the idea of the dogs licking out the food bowls! Even if they ARE washed afterward. We used to have a dog though, and I was grateful for her help with cleaning up dropped Cheerios and kiddie crumbs, I'll tell you that!

My grandma refers to her dog as "the vacuum with 4 legs"

We let the dog eat the scraps off a plate- otherwise his food bowl gets all crusty. BUT, I take that plate and wash it like there's no tomorrow. Scalding hot water, soap, make sure every inch is CLEAN.
So, it kind of does gross me out- but I figure clean is clean, no matter who ate off it.

There are a ton of things I don't clean. I work full-time, go to school full-time, and I'm finishing up my certification to be a childbirth educator and lactation educator. I do my homework between customers at work just to have time to do it. I'm lucky I get to SLEEP, much less scrub my house on a daily basis!

My living room gets vacuumed about once a week. It's got a layer of dog hair within 15 minutes of being vacuumed (3 dogs) so I don't worry too much about vacuuming it constantly. DS does spot-vacuums with his hand vac so I think it's ok. I've mopped the kitchen maybe twice since we've lived here (about 9 months). I would never think to move the fridge and stove and clean under them unless something spilled and obviously spread underneath there. I didn't even know the fridge and microwave had filters. I use the same mug for tea all day, I just rinse it between cups. It goes in the sink at the end of the night. The sink is really small so it's always overflowing with dishes even when I do dishes every day. I'm sure there's more.
