12 mo grinding teeth

My almost-12-month-old has five front teeth. For the last several days she's been grinding them together -- most often when she's tired, but sometimes for no apparent reason at all. It makes a dreadful noise and is distressing DH enormously (and me too). It can't be good for her. Has anyone gone through this with their LO? Any advice for ways to get her to stop??

Not my toddler, but my 9mo has been grinding her teeth! Oh the noise is awful! Neither of my other girls did it, so I was surprised. I don't think it's harmful, and I'm sure it's just a different sensation for them to rub those teeth together. I've been distracting her (peek-a-boo, tickling) or offering something to chew on. Pretty sure it won't last long!

My DS does this, at this point when we catch it, we tell him not to, that it's bad for his teeth. He's old enough to understand that, but I'm not sure what else to do. I'd like to hear what others have to say.
