Hi everyone! I joined MDC cause I've heard it has a great homebirth forum! I am hoping for one with my second child (currently TTC!). I am hoping to find some others who have homebirthed in the CNY area, as it seems so far like it is a VERY uncommon thing around here, I think it's actually becoming illegal soon for a midwife to assist with one, not sure on the details though. I also love anything natural parenting!

I'm pretty new around here too. But I'm from CNY and know lots of homebirth moms!

Technically what is happening is malpractice insurance companies are refusing to cover doctors who sign agreements to be transfer back ups for midwives. In NYS state this agreement is a legal requirement for midwives.

Have you been to freeourmidwives.org? Lots of activity is going on to push through legislations to keep homebirth legal. I think that some midwives are still going to attend births.

I know lots of resources in my area. If you intrested I could give you some names. It proabably depends on where in CNY you are, but here there is TONS of activity surrounding homebirth.
