juvenile diabetes??????

My 2-year-old daughter, within the last two weeks, has begun demanding water every 15 or so minutes all day long. It's a very sudden and dramatic change, and my DH was the first one to point it out. At first it was just more than usual, now it is literally about 30 cups (8 oz sippy cups) of water per day or more.
Within the last two days, there's a sense of urgency to the situation. She doesn't sleep well, wakes up crying for no apparent reason (we suspected night terrors, but she is easily woken). Her water is always empty when we go upstairs to check on her. She's been peeing a ton (which anyone would if they drank 30 cups of water consistently!).
My maternal grandmother and aunt both had Type 1 Diabetes diagnosed when they were just past toddlerhood.
We don't have any health insurance at the moment. Someone told me there were diabetes strips you can get to check at the onset of problems like this to see what sugar and insulin levels are.

Does anyone have any experience with this???

You could check her blood sugar if you had a monitor, but this is one of those situations I'd head in to see someone.

I agree with PP, with that familial history. If you knew someone with test strips that could test for you within 24 hours, I'd say go that route. If not, head to the doctor. It could be nothing (my DD2 had that as a food intolerance symptom and was checked twice for diabetes) but with that history, I'd definitely get it checked sooner rather than later.

My understanding is that Type 1 diabetes is far more dangerous in the short-term than Type 2 diabetes, so I would definitely get it check out asap. If your daughter is showing symptoms this severe, I would literally have her seen at an Urgent Care today.

if you have no money, go to an ER. they cant refuse to see you and will work with you after wrt to the bill. ask about indigent patient programs when you check in, and dont worry, they wont refuse you just bc you asked. GL!

I know this is an old thred, but I was wondering how everything worked out. This is exactly how my son was acting just before he was diagnosed with Type 1 at 20 months old. Constantly drinking, constantly peeing, and not gaining an ounce.

I hope everything is going well for you
