What Color Should I Paint My Front Door? UPDATE w/pics post #23

Thread Starter
OK, so I have a boring white door and I want a pretty colored door - the problem is that I can't figure out what color would look good with the exterior color of our house. Here are a few pictures to show you the color of our house and the door in question 1, 2, 3.

I also want the color of the door to look good when the door is open and visible from our living room - meaning I don't want it to be a color that would clash with our wine red couches - so no red, pretty much anything else is fair game though.

What do you think?

I think a sage green would look REALLY good with your blue house. Or purple, if you can find a shade that coordinates but also stands out enough.

Such a sweet home!

I was going to vote red until I saw the disclaimer

I agree with St. Margaret - sage green would be lovely.

sage green, charcoal grey, or a soft buttery yellow

Another buttery yellow vote, though that may be closer to white than you'd like if you're looking for a BIG change. You might consider a peachier tone if you want to do the color wheel complementary colors thing, although to that shade of blue I think the actual complementary color might be more of a taupe.

I vote yellow too. A golden rod would really pop against the slate blue of your house.

why not the same color of the couches?

My elderly neighbor had a tannish color house and she painted her door a plum purple.Said she always want to do that.It looked nice.

Yellow or grey. You can get a grey that has a hint of green to it.

turquoise! a nice attractive tealish-turquoise color would look great with blue, i think. unique.

Do you have shutters? Every house I know of with a colored door has the exact same color as their shutters.

I'm going to vote yellow. But you know I love yellow and blue together. Though I always think of your house as being grey, but it looks more blue in these pictures. But I think the right color yellow would work well.

Yellow for sure. Blue + Yellow =

Yep, yellow. But not a pale, butter yellow - I think a deeper or brighter yellow would be good. But not schoolbus yellow!

Red would have been my first choice, but with your couch issue, yellow would be nice!

Do you have a photo of the whole front of the house... my answer might change depending on what plants are near the door.

But I think a canary yellow would be nice. Or a light orange. Which may or may not be the same thing depending on your interpretation. I don't know quite how to describe it but the outline of the box I'm typing in right now (I have the standard colours I think) is kind of a mustardy orange colour. I like that one.

Disclaimer: my favourite colour combo EVER is orange and blue. So I'm biased.

goldenrod / sunflower / marigold
or
terracotta (would probably look great with your couches when open)
or
greige (although it's not colorful i think it would be pretty with the blue and the couches)
