What a scary experience that labor sounds like. I'm am sooooo sooo relieved there shouldn't be brain damage. You will come out of this on the other side with a sweet baby girl!! Thinking of you.

Wow, what an experience. Thank goodness for the encouraging update.

Thanks for the update! I hope things keep looking up, that you get the transfer you want, and that you're both home soon!

You should get an honorary (silver?) birthing stool for the ordeal you had to go through!

..and OMG, those cheeks!!

She is gorgeous, Mama!

You remain in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery and homecoming.

Mercy has been transfered to the local hospital and is as of right now a completely healthy baby that needs to finish a course of antibiotics for a possible infection

This hospital is a UAV. We're basically being held hostage to take too long a course of antibiotics for an infection that may not exist. This is not fun. We're not getting out until freaking Thursday night. Seriously. 10 days of antibiotics for "pneumonia" in a baby who went from a respirator to room air in about 48 hours. This is allegedly pneumonia? I am angry. I am home very briefly, but I am furious right now. At least I'm getting quite the babymoon? Oh, and the nurses are awful about breastfeeding. Just UGH!

I'm so glad she is doing so well, but I am sorry they are being such a PITA about making you stay Any chance of getting a doc on your side to finish up the rest at home? :

LNF -- big hugs! This is so close to what we went through with the NICU! Forced to stay for 3 days of antibiotics for a baby who had no signs of infection except the relatively-common rapid breathing and nurses who had no idea what to do with a breastfeeding mom.

All I could do was to embrace the idea that those might be some of the worst days of my life, and that I just had to push through them.

I'm sorry you're stuck so much longer than we were. We had some luck contacting our pediatrician and getting her support for releasing him even if he wasn't totally back to normal because she knew us and knew he'd have good follow-up.

I hope you can find a doc or nurse who will stand with you. It's terrible feeling like you're battling them, instead of working together to keep your baby healthy. It's changed my opinion of the medical establishment forever.

That totally sucks. I second trying to talk to every doctor you know to get you out of there early. A 10 day hospital stay for antibiotics for pneumonia for a baby with no symptoms is RIDICULOUS. Can you take her out AMA, or will that just bring further grief in the form of a CPS visit?

I am so sorry. I third the suggestion of trying to enlist one of the docs to release her early. Could you do the abx at home? Or in your peds office? Daily visits would be a pain, but better than being in the hospital.

Praying you find a way home sooner.

Be careful with this -- if we'd checked out AMA, our insurance wouldn't have paid for any of Sprout's NICU stay (over $10,000). That furthered our feeling of being held hostage.

lnf, that sucks. I'm pissed off for you.

Wow. I'm glad she's doing so well, and also pissed off with you, for having to keep a perfectly healthy baby in the hospital for almost a whole extra week. That's madness.

I hope you get to take her home sooner.
