Reducing solids & more breastmilk in 14mo?

Hi Mamas

We have a 14 month old daughter who has had solid foods since about 6 months old (and loves them). For the past several weeks she has gradually been reducing her intake of solids and increasing breastfeeding/expressed breastmilk intake. Is this normal? I work during the day so most of her eating is at night (not ideal). I'd like her to stay on solids, in part because I will be traveling for work in a month and because we're trying to conceive. This coincides with increased clingy-ness, with me in particular when I'm home (my husband is with her during the day). Is this a phase?

It's a phase and don't worry it won't last forever. I've never heard of a 10 year old who refuses food in place of breastmilk. She's probably going through a growth spurt or she's very mildly sick or she's teething or something else of that general nature. It's really common for kiddos to revert to nursing like mad when something is happening to their body and it's not like they can communicate about it.

Good luck.

DD cut waaaaay back on solids after her first birthday... I think mainly due to teething. It will pass - keep nursing her and offering healthy choices.

Sounds like teething to me, too.

My immediate thought was teething as well. Whenever my son cuts a tooth, he refuses most foods and nurses more. I've found yogurt to be a lifesaver. I think it's the cool, smooth texture that he likes on his gums. It's sometimes the only food he has all day other than breast milk, but hey, at least it's something.

Thank you so much for the reassurance!

Yesterday she had 6 blueberries, an animal cracker, and ~7 oz expressed breast milk....all day. She nursed at least every two hours through the night. I love that she's still nursing and I'm still okay with nursing in the night, but going back to the newborn frequency of night nursing is not something I'm excited about (or want to encourage long term!).
