how much wakey time is "normal" / to be expected? - Page 2

she ended up giving me about 30-40, though towards the end she was asleep. then i had to ruin it and put her in the carseat. but she actually didn't scream on our way to brunch. it was a friday miracle.

now she's screaming her head off. to the point that she's sweaty. i just turned on the fan and took her clothes off. now i wonder if she's cold. babies confuse me.

haha, i was shocked to see so many responses on this thread! thanks rhi! i hope you feel good about whatever you decide to do, and lorelai feels better soon .

of course last night charlie was awake from about 5pm-10pm. so that was his awake time for the day! since he was born i think of a "day" as 24-hrs from midnight to midnight.

now today he's been since noon and he's still awake now at 2:30. it seems to correspond to cluster feeding for sure.

when he is awake he's bright-eyed, and he certainly does wake on his own. i haven't had to wake him to eat since he was about a week and 1/2 old.

sanguine, during the day he was awake while eating, but then wanted to go right back to sleep during the day. so, with eating every two hours and 2-3 hrs of wakey time in addition, it was a little more than my original post probably implied.

while he's awake, he will just hang out, gazing around, sometimes in our laps or even just laying on the couch/bed. sometimes he is really gassy and fussy, has to be bounced and shushed. he's starting to smile more, and even "talk" a little bit with us.

so, after all the discussion yesterday... she's been awake for huge chunks of time today and just been relatively happy. she knows when i'm *this* close to selling her to the circus, i think. she's been awake for the better part of two hours, and has had some fussies, but has been easily calmed.

so, to answer P&H's question (since this is her thread, after all), my baby likes to change things up. one day she's asleep most of the day, one day she's awake and cries, and today she's more content!
