How concerned do I need to be ?

I have 3 dogs....I am concerned about our almost 3 year old shelter dog we adopted 2 years ago.....she is a 12 pound Chihuahua mix....she is very sweet, daintly and cat like....she can also be a great ambush predator.

She likes to "hunt" birds and squirrles in the backyard. We let them out before we had lunch....I was walking by the glass door and saw she had something in her mouth...it was a baby bird...well youngter I guess it was completely feathered out but not a full grown black birds (lots of birdie babies around lately). Problem? she ate the head...and part of the neck.

I figure she may be sick tonight...I am concerned do they carry Parvo? I have a 4 month and 1 week old puppy here too. Vet's office was closed. Dog seems fine thus far.

I believe parvo is a dog only disease...although i think that parvo originated with cats as distemper.

The only thing i would be concerned with is that she is able to pass the bones or the bird, and that they dont get stuck. I would watch her poop and make sure she is going ok, not having excessive vomiting or diareah.

I would also be sure and get your puppy vaccinated agaist parvo asap. ( I would recommend a combo with at least the parvo distemper and the lepto they easily kill puppies and are very very easy to catch and common, and if your on a budget you can usually get the shots at a feed store and give it yourself )

Thank you, thankfully puppy is up to date on shots and my senior dog is up to date ....I am paranoid..years ago when we were first married I had two dogs...puppies Doberman and American Bulldog they were both up to date o their shots.....however, somewhere on one of our walks we picked up parvo....took them to the vet right away when the first one was sick and vomiting and everything....they sent my dog home (he nearly died!!!) I learned the hard way that vet clinic did not want to deal with what he had (highly contagious) but don't send him home with me..I had no clue...thankfully another vet took us right away...the dobie ended up with it too...they were both saved and lived long lives. Until that time I never knew the dogs can be vaccinated...but I was told if they are exposed to higher....not sure of the word.."concentration?" they can still get.

Believe it or not I did feed her dinner...and she ate it all. She was on the street....pregnant (too young to be) we got her from a shelter but she still maintains some of her "street wise ways" LOL.

The only thing I'd be concerned about is worms/parasites. I'd give her a course of dewormer, if you haven't already.
