Another idea is Spence's Farm in Chapel Hill--I've taken my preschool classes on field trips there several times, and it's always been a big hit.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again soon, with new baby too (she's 5 weeks today).
Definitely come! My baby will be 6 weeks on Thursday! It'll be nice to have another tiny one there (though I don't have any other children to have to chase around)

I'm definitely in for a zoo trip...I was sort of toying with going Friday (before it gets too hot) if anyone is interested...

Yes! Will add them to my list. I'm personally very excited about Colossal Collard Day myself.

I know some of our group might not be old enough, but what about one of the free movies? The Beaver Creek movie theatre near me has free morning G and PG movies for families during the summer.

Free is good for us.

for all the good ideas!

On another note, any ideas for where we are meeting this week? I got side-tracked by all these other potential fun things!

I just started a new thread for Wednesday so we can all make plans and decide where we are going.

Yeah, we haven't actually taken both kids to a real in-theater movie. DS went once last summer to a free one (March of the Penguins), and did ok, but our expectations were low. We will see. Free is free.

Sorry your thread got sort of hijacked. I feel responsible.

Hijack away! I am so glad we started this convo.

Does anyone have info on any of the free summer concerts? I know evenings are harder for most of us, but a free evening concert still sounds super fun.
Hey! That's the ONE benefit to never-going-to-sleep kids!! We can do evening stuff!!!

I looove this entire thread. I was planning a topic a week end going from there. The only thing I will add that I don't think was added is out of town adventures. Cool day at the zoo. Beach day including an aquarium visit. Discovery Museum in Charlotte (one of my cave as a kid), something in Winston & Greensboro too since they're so close. My ony coveat with the day trips is peppering them in when I'm not on call.

Oh my topic of the week.... CRAZY!

If we did a firestation tour that week, I was going to have storytime and craft day that week to fuehrer add to the theme. Yes I am crazy!

Ok ladies. Yes, I am a little OCD when it comes to planning, but I thought I'd create a Google Calendar for us to plan and share events. If it works awesome, if not...that's cool too.

I only saw the date for one actual event on so I added it.

I was thinking (yes this is nuts) of having a theme week and I put an example of Train Week on the calendar. I'm not sure if this idea appeals to anyone, but I thought I'd put it up as an example. The idea would be that, that week's activities (crafts, storytime, etc.) would evolve around a particular theme including the visit to wherever we were going, for trains, the NC Railway Museum. Like I said this is a bit nuts, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I'm still more of a hopeful future member of the group (missed today's playgroup) but here are a couple of places I've always wanted to visit:

the primate center at Duke

The Carolina Tiger Rescue (formerly called carnivore preservation trust) in Pittsboro

I just added the free movies at Koka Booth, the Apex 4th of July parade, the free concerts at Bond park and a handful of other events. This could be fun.

For the train week, what about a train ride on the New Hope Valley Railway?
