Trying for med-free after previous medicated births ... - Page 2

For your fear: Positive affirmations. Start right now! Repeat after me, "I am strong, I can have my baby naturally, I trust my body"

Hypnobirthing is great for positive vibes and relaxation. You can also make time every day to listen to a specific CD while practicing complete relaxtion and positive vibes; have the CD for your birth. You will train your body to relax and your mind to quiet down this way.

I don't know if you have ever read Ina May Gaskin's Spiritual Midwifery, but it is full of groovy stories that make you feel happy and safe. Her new book is also wonderful.
Birthing from Within is fantastic too.

One thing that I think is incredibly helpful is to have people with you at the birth that will make you laugh and help you feel comfortable and loved, but not like a watched pot.

One more thing- I don't know your history, but birth is usually easier at home, in a big warm pool of water with loving, respectful midwives. I encourage you to consider a home or birth center delivery.

Good luck on your journey! You absolutely can do it.

Just read a lovely thread in the Birth Archives about unmedicated birth that was ... well, lovely.

kama'aina mama, you had a beautiful post in there about the spiritual power of your DD's birth, so few words but so strong, will stay in my head for a while ...

Anyway, wishing I could consider a homebirth, but I can't. The logistics just don't seem possible. We're in a small apartment, with three very young kids & a cat, no neighbors who could help (building is almost entirely life-long-single seniors and single younger folks, except for us) or even local enough support to help with them ... can't conceive of how that could be done. And no, I am not comfortable with a 2yo and a 4yo and a 6yo being with me in labor. I mean, how could anyone deal with it ... am imagining if they start bickering I'd need pain meds just to deal with the headache from that. :LOL

We're expecting my parents to come in to be with the kids when labor does start, but imagining dealing with my kids *and* my parents while laboring (purposely leaving DH out of this imagining at the moment :LOL) is just such stress overload ...

... that the hospital almost sounds like relief in itself.

:LOL

:LOL

Our local hospital has a well-respected birthing center wing, really nice (we took the tour once), but I'm not eligible to deliver there first because of age (they have a 35 age limit : ) and second because of my tetchy uterus. No biggie, though they do have huge tubs in the rooms and that *does* sound nice ... the shower in the regular hospital labor rooms is not exactly inspiring :LOL ...

Oh, well. Long rambly post, whatcanyado.

Another one here

I had peth, epi and forceps with my first birth, not a very pleasant experience.
I wanted a hb with #2 but due to "complications" with #1 : my doctor wouldn't consider it.

So apart from the birthing room setting #2 was natural, no drugs, no intervention at all, they basically left us in the room and forgot about us :LOL Totally awesome experience
