I don't think zoloft is enough anymore

I've been on zoloft for over four years now and I don't think it's helping anymore. I have been having panic attacks and periods of time where I feel completely overwhelmed when it comes to simple things like housework or answering emails.

My town is a wasteland when it comes to mental health and I can't get an appointment with a psychiatrist until November. NOVEMBER! I'm going to see a family doctor on Monday and I'm not sure what to expect. My gut tells me I need to add an occasional anti-anxiety med like xanax to help me get through these bouts of severe anxiety.

Does anyone have advice? Similar stories?

I would say getting some xanax would not be a bad idea. I am in the process of deciding what meds to go on again (see my post in the PPD forum) because I have crippling anxiety, too.

It's the worst. I know how you feel. Just offering support and encouragement. I would try getting something for those times when you know you need it.

What's your dosage on the Zoloft? I've been taking it for a looong time and have had to have it adjusted every now and then.

I'm on 50 mg once a day. I had it adjusted up once, but it made my anxiety worse.

It's totally normal to feel more anxious when you up your meds for a brief time... goes away after a couple of weeks. I don't know how long you raised your dose for, but it's something to think about.

The doctor increased my dose to 100 mg and gave me .25 mg xanax to help me with the transition process.

How long should I expect it to take?

Could be a couple of days, could be two weeks. But I would think you would adjust pretty quickly. Don't worry. It's totally normal to feel anxious when going up in dose and in the next week or so, you will feel SO much better.
