moving into a rv...

Okay, I consider myself pretty good on the decluttering front. I used to be on here a lot but yeah, haven't in awhile. We recently decided to follow our dreams and one step to that dream, owning our own farm, is interning on farm this summer. But we don't do things simply We are selling our house, getting rid of most everything and moving into a RV and driving to the farm. Doesn't this sound like fun? Yes. We are doing this with 2 weeks notice, doesn't that sound like fun? We are supposed to be leaving on Tuesday. And I am blocked. I used to get blocked decluttering and would just stop for awhile, well I can't do that now. We have very little time left and I feel crazy. The bedrooms were easy, the bathroom was easy. Toys were easy. But my kitchen? I like to cook and bake. I went through once, but this time with packing I am having a hard time. I actually USE this stuff. But I am not sure how it is going to fit in the rv. Oh by the way, we are a family of 5 (three girls) a dog, two cats and 5 bunnies. Again, doesn't this sound like fun? So I am looking for some motivation, advice, a slap upside the head and telling me to get off my bum, something anything. Cuz it just isn't moving the way I want it to right now.

Do you have kitchen gadgets that do the same thing as something else? For example... do you have both a blender and a food processor? Could you get by with just one? Do you have a hand mixer and a stand mixer? Multiples of one size of bowl? I would probably start there... multiple mixing spoons too, things that you could rinse/wash and use again in the same day if you needed. Also, do you anticipate your diet/eating habits changing once you are in the rv? How will that affect what kitchen stuff you need?

that was the stuff I cleared out the first time around. And yes how our diet is going to change makes me wonder too. I don't think I will be baking as much in that little oven, but I got rid of some of my baking stuff too. I have a lot of nice pots though and they are all done there. And our good supply of canning jars. Some of the pain is that this isn't forever and we will eventually have our own space and these are not things we want to part with. It is kinda crazy going from 1800 square feet to well, a rv. It is just a lot to wrap my mind around. I have gotten my spices down there and my utensils. I am happy with how I got my spices down there. We have a lot of canning jars, so I used those to pack up the spices, so I am not just packing empty canning jars. We use canning jars for pretty much everything, drinking, storage, so they are pretty important. I am going to can my yarn too.

Can you afford to rent a small storage space for the time being? Or arrange to use any storage at a relative/friend's house? Especially as this isn't going to be long term, and you are going to want these things again...?? Or what about seeing if you can erect a small shed at the farm, or get a covered trailer to tow behind the RV with extra stuff?

Is this a 5th wheel- will you have vehicle? In our truck, I have the storage under the seats and maybe if you have something similiar, you could make some storage there. Sounds like fun. Post pics if you can and have fun!!!

That is an awesome idea with the spices and the canning jars!! Do you have any friends or family that would let you store a few things in their garage or basement? I know we have some stuff stored at my parents house that we want to keep for our forever home but don't trust military movers to tote around the country...

Yes, if there is some stuff that you don't want to let go of but might want shipped out to you later when you have your own space again, you know that is an option.

Yes, I have awesome friends like Sonja! who better just come live with us in a couple of years

So far it is going better than it was. I still wish that somehow all the crap that we have laying around would just disappear! We have packed up a lot of food today, including putting a lot of beans and dried food in canning jars. We took the microwave out of the rv and have more space for stuff.
The rv is a travel trailer, so we do have a truck pulling it, but I don't think we have storage under the seats. We do have a bed and our neighbors are nice and are giving us the camper shell to the truck we just sold them. Our bunnies and who knows what is going back there. It feels better but I am still having a hard time thinking that we will be done by Tuesday.
Oh and I am hoping to start up a new blog about this adventure. We have some very different reactions to what we are doing some people think that it is amazingly awesome to just sell everything move into a rv and go intern at a farm and start a whole new life. I mean this is really different from my husband's previous job as a navy nuke submariner though we have had a good garden and chickens, ducks, goats and bunnies for a bit. And some people think we are absolutely insane. Still everyone wants to know how it is going to turn out. But so far I am pretty happy with what we have fit into the rv and how we have stored it. So I hope to take pictures as soon as I can.

i suggest you store whatever you can't part with or fit into the RV. just ask a family member for a corner of their basement or some such. my parents are storing our boxes (about 25 of them), and they will ship it for us when we are ready (international freight shipping on a pallet).

thus, when you get your farm, you don't have to rebuild on the tools you have. we kept two boxes of kitchen things.
