Boy name help

I'm having trouble coming up with a boy name. I was going to go with Louis but I keep wavering and I'm not sure if it is the one. Luis is pretty popular right now. I know the pronounciation and culture is a little different but there may be a lot of boys with a similar name out there. I am not sure if that a big deal or not.

I'm like classic names that are not too popular. I like to stay out of the top 250 or so. I don't want a name that will have a leap in popularity or be trendy. It is ok if it the name is on the rise if it isn't a huge change. I like old fashioned classic names that don't sound like you can only picture them on an old man. Names that are unique but not too out there sounding.

Other names I like are Lyle, Lowell and Alden. I really like Franklin and Lawrence but we have relatvies with those names that we don't like. I also really like Theron but it is too similar sounding to my sons name.

I been looking at lists and trends but I can't seem to find the name and I like to know before birth. I don't know what I am having but I have my girl name already. So does anyone have any name suggestions. I figure it is a break from baby name sites.

Nothing in addition to your list, but my son's name is Alden and I love it!

It was really hard for me to find a boy name I liked, especially wanting a name that was uncommon but not way out in left field. We decided on Alden even though I thought I was having a girl. Surprise!

We love the name and it's meaning and everyone we meet likes it too. The only thing I don't like is when people pronounce his name with "Al" as the first syllable instead of "All" or "Awl" sound. But that's mostly because I don't like the nickname "Al" and I don't want anyone to call him that. But that's just me being picky.

I hope you find a name you like that fits your son!

This may be weird to you but my Gramps' name is Leo and we are probably giong to use that if we have a boy. I really like it and I do not think its popular.

We considered naming DS Frederick before we settled on Daniel Jr. We also talked about Quentin, Eugene, Irvin, and Edgar (all family names). And I kind of like August, Albert and Walter.

I like Alden and Franklin a whole bunch! How about Everett? Kenneth? Theodore?

Thanks everyone. I finally narrowed it down to 3. My dh did not like most of my name choices so we are left with Louis, Everett and Randall. I am kinda digging Everett but it is gaining in popularity. It is still at a position I can live with but I am hoping it doesn't keep jumping and end up really high on the list. He doesn't like Alden and I know an aquantance I see sometimes who has a son with that name. I like Frederick but the nickname is too close to my ds's name. He is a Theodore that goes by Teddy.

I see that you're in Alaska? I would guess you wouldn't have too much competition for Louis there. I think the rise in popularity of Luis (rather than Lewis or Louis) is actually in the Hispanic population. Loo-EES rather than LOO-is. It would be like if you wanted to name your baby John but you were worried that Juan was too popular.

ETA: Yep, that's what it is. If you go to this cool little websiteNameMapper, which is an offshoot of Baby Name Voyager, and type in Luis, it shows that the name is popular in Arizona, Texas, California, New Mexico and a couple other states.

ETA again: I'm totally geeking out on baby names here, but if you go to Baby Name Voyager, you can see that Luis has had the big spike since the 90s, but Louis had its big spike in 1910 and hasn't been popular since the 1950s. It's actually steadily decreased since then and hasn't shown any signs of getting popular again. Everett is starting to see a big spike. I really love that name, but it has the same kind of connotation as Ava or Sophia, or in boy's names, like Jasper or Miles -- that kind of class name that is getting really popular again.

Wow, MamaJen, this website is the best!! I am having so much fun!!

I also really like Everett. And Emmett (not that Emmett is on the table, just thought I'd throw it out there).
