Favorite Newborn Pattern?

Thread Starter
I want to buy a pattern or two to fill out a newborn stash. The bulk of the stash will be ubcpfs, but I'd like to mix it up a little bit.

Who likes Cuddlebuns on a new baby? Honeyboys? PooPockets? Something I haven't thought of?

I'm assuming the baby will be between 7ish-8ish pounds and I'm not super worried about having a onesize dipe or whatever. I just want something that will have a good fit, soak up pee and contain poo!

Any suggestions?

Moving to Sewing and Crafts.

Congrats on your pregnancy.

hmmm.. I dunno (really just bumpin it for ya)... I do know that poopockets has an add'l pattern for newborns. I really like the side-snapping pattern (in the bigger sizes, at least), though.

Congrats!

MIL just bought the poopockets diaper pattern, cover pattern and a sample diaper. Cost was $30.00 with shipping. I thought that was pretty good! As soon as it arrives we'll start production. I'm due in Aug, so I'll post back how well they work. You'll prob have started by then, but I'll still post back

Best of luck!!

I'm a fan of CuddleBuns. It's a very basic pattern that can easily be altered - in other words, very versatile. I like designing my own things, so I use CuddleBuns as my starting point. I'm famous for buying things on the TP that supposedly fit well and then altering my pattern to make diapers similar to them, but with changes like snaps or side/front fastening to my liking. I think the pattern itself gets rave reviews from the WAHMs who make them according to the directions in order to sell them as CuddleBuns.

Cool, now I'm super excited about the cuddlebuns pattern I just purchased.

I like the Cuddlebuns pattern, too. I can't claim any expertise on fit - my girls haven't arrived yet - but it's great to sew up. I made some preemie sized fitteds from the patterns since the twins will be small and SURPRISE they're really not that much bigger than the preemie sized sposies my mom bought for me. It has instructions for several different versions of the pattern - Bikini cut, wraps made from PUL, XXL size. I've really enjoyed that about the pattern - I think it's wll worth the $$$.

Congrats on your upcoming twins Katie! Those itty bitty dipes must be sooo cute!

I wonder if I can make fleece covers from the PUL cover pattern....hmmmm....

Thanks! I can't wait to meet the girls....starting to get very excited!

You should be able to make the covers without altering the cover pattern too much. For the PUL you have to add 1" to each of the wings and up to 2" to the rise (it shows you where to do that) to compensate for the lack of stretch. With the fleece you should be able to use the pattern pretty much as is. I added a bit more than the seam allowance all the way around (about 1/2" extra) and moved the leg elastic out about 1/2" so that they should easily cover any fitteds that I may happen to make in the regular size (we'll see if that ever happens...ha!) The fleece is nicer to work with...PUL is a bit stiff. I just didn't want to start out with Windpro which is twice as expensive.

I've seen a few Free patterns online, one was for a premie, but you could probably "up" it a little till the dimensions were about 15" back, 15" length, 5" crotch.

I made a TON of nb fitteds and swear by them! They were soooo much nicer than prefolds and covers. It took me a while to find a cover to fit perfectly on a nb, and not scratch or leave red marks, and I had the cover sitting there all along!

Just a simple pull-on like Alexis Featherlite in nb 6-10 lbs size was the best!!

I sell myown patterns, but I'm sure others will work fine too.

The tiny fitteds are soo easy and quick to make, that you'll end up making a lot more than you thought!

Can the Cuddlebuns pattern be made with flannel?

Erin =)

Yes, they can be made with any type of fabric you want to use.
