Where to find good inexpensive maternity clothes? - Page 2

I had good luck shopping clearance racks at Old Navy and Target last time around. I didn't spend over $20 for jeans or pants, and got shirts even cheaper. Kohls also usually has some cute shirts.

I couldn't STAND belly bands. I don't like having something tight like that on my belly (and didn't like full panel maternity either ~ I preferred the lower rise or the fold down stretchy waists).

I have gotten everything used this pregnancy and done pretty well. I did get a band from target, although it didn't work especially well with me with my normal jeans-- I felt even more like they were falling down than I do with my maternity jeans. ;-) I'm not wearing any full-panel jeans yet, but I figure that I will find some when I get a little bigger (and will probably keep these, which have the band all the way around, for postpartum, and then resell).

I've had the best luck at Ross. They have very inexpensive, decent quality items including jeans. I've bought shirts, shorts and capris there. I have bought jeans since I live in the south and knew i wouldn't be in them for long, so I wore my regular jeans with the belly band from Target (Be Band, I think) and one I bought on ebay that's thicker and reversible. You could also try calling the TJ Maxx and Marshalls near you to see if they have maternity departments.

I've also bought items at Kohl's (when they have good sales their prices are about $6 for tank tops for $6 and $10-$20 for capris and shorts) and a local baby consignment shop (call some and ask if they have maternity clothes too).

I just bought some AWESOME tank tops from Suzy Shier (it's a canadian chain but you can shop online). Their Ruched tank tops are 2 for 15$ right now. I have no idea what size I am right now, but I my boobs are around the D/DD mark at 32weeks and the Larges fit me fine. They're long enough to give plenty of coverage to the bump and there's even a built in shelf-bra that I find comfortable enough for going around the house bra-less. And they're only 7.50 each!!

I can't actually vouch for any other tops re:maternity fit since I didn't buy any but in the past (non-preggers) I've found suzy shier to fit pretty consistantly.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I got lucky and found a pair of old navy maternity jeans at value village for 5 bucks. *happy dance* I guess the trick is just to go like 3 r 4 times.

Value Village has worked well for me in my area since they have a maternity section. There is a lot of turnover and they usually have percentage off days - anywhere from 25 to 50 percent off.
Walmart online is great.

Land's End has a few inexpensive, high quality maternity pieces.

I get all mine from thrift stores and consignment shops. There are some nifty consignment shops in my city that cater only to babies/toddlers and pregnant mamas. The clothes are always in great condition and are much less expensive than new off the rack.

I hit the clearance racks maternity racks in Target, JC Penny, and Old Navy. I just bought a top and pants from Target for $4.95!

Freecycle has also been good to me. I picked up a bag full of excellent condition maternity tops/bottoms, mostly from Motherhood Maternity, from my local Freecycle community.

I also use a belly band, but towards the end of the pregnancy I find it a bit uncomfortable. But I love it up until about 7 months.

Have you tried non-maternity clothes?

I'm not kidding when I say there are no maternity stores (or stores that carry maternity) in my area. I had to resort to buying non-maternity. This year, this is really easy because all the shirts are longer and seem to be cut in a maternity friendly way. I just buy them in the biggest sizes I can find. All the ones I've bought have tie backs so you can get them to look fitted.

For jeans I just bought 2 pairs of super low rise jeans 2 inches bigger than what I normally wear. I'm 27 weeks now and they are starting to cut into my skin a bit so now I'm wearing the non-maternity low-rise jeans that I bought immediately after giving birth the last time. They are about 4 inches bigger than what I normally wear.

I check out the Goodwill every week or so. They have stuff there from regular maternity stores that have never even been worn, still have the tags on it. I've gotten tons of clothes there.
